New computer build by total newbie.

Enermax CS-718 case - wind tunnel design...loading stuff from the right side. Inverted mobo. 460 watt PSU

A8N-E

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Manchester 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor.
Pheonix - Award bios.

eVGA 512-P2-N575-AX Geforce 7900GTX 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro
encompassing 7.1 surround sound for Dolby Digital.

KVR400X64C3AK2/2GB Quantity 2 of Kingston ValueRAM 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 PC3200

Seagate 7200.9 400Gb with 3.AAH Firmware

Win XP pro...64 bit...(all I have right now..except a Magnell recovery xp 32 bit that I'm on now. I'm sure it won't go...)

I anyone here familier with this "wind tunnel" case? I just cannot get those fans going. I know the wires on the fan card is correct...somewhere something is not hooked up or the thing is not getting power. The optional fan I got will not work when plugged into it..so fans not the issue..just getting power I guess.

I leave the case open with a room fan going but I'd sure like to get it going again..and seem to have lost my little LED where the temp reads out. I was there last night.

I should be grateful that it didn't catch fire when putting the juice to it the first time...

All fans in PSU work..both. CPU fan works. Chip fan works...everything on the mobo seems to work. Happy green light. Have no idea about sound...havn't gotten there yet but the card is in. Just trying to get the OS in.

I have so many wires dancing in my head...I don't know what to do with them all.

The BIOS/CMOS see's master and slave drives nicely...just where they're supposed to be...and the floppy. All work nicely. It sees all the memory I put on this thing. 2gig.

Getting the hard drive partitioned...yuk. It reads my harddrive space and how much on it. You press the C key to partition and it just won't go. It sees a "RAW" harddrive...and the number of megabytes on it...and says to press enter to partition then hit the C key. That's where it just sits. You can see some kind of examination of harddrive or something flash by at the bottom...can't really read it. Too fast...and just sits there. You can press C till dooms day..no partitioning. *sigh* The stupid set up will not go past the C or give any selections of what kind of partition I want...I mean dead stop right there. I tried messing around with it...do the "enter" to partition...then asks to press C...a quick flurry of something being read....and dead stop right there. It would love to format..but how can you format a non partitioned harddrive?

Where can you go from there. You can find a ton of instructions on partitioning the harddrive..but not what to do if it's stuck.

Also...I get a nice single beep like a regular post....then a babeep beep beep beep beep. It stops after that...does not repeat. ..till you boot again. Clueless. BTW...I had removed all hardware but the bare basics and still got the babeep + 4.. Just bare bones...I dunno. Sound card and video card were all out of there.

I've seen fans put together with a daisy chain of 3 pin power adapters (in my old trusty-rusty I'm using now)...but there's a tiny two pin that's part of the enermax set up.

If you know the workings of the enermax wind tunnel case, theres a black and white twisted wire that seems to fit in with the fan system in this computer..but I can't find where the same type of wire goes in that case.

I really hate being a newbie...but I wouldn't be happy till I built one. I'm afraid I need to be taken by the hand step by step....

Thanx in advance for any help.

Welcome to the Forums If you have a camcorder, or a digital camera that can take movies, then try using that to capture the message that flashes by too fast to read.

Also,

1) the Seagate 7200.9, is it SATA, or is it conventional Parallel ATA?

2) so the WinXP Pro x64 edition, it does this too?

Something is broken.

Count the long and short beeps, and look up in MB manual what they mean. It should be listed under beep codes or something simular.

Case fans still don't work...some homeless wires and I can hope against hope it's something like that causing the beeps. The beeps after POST beep...and after F1 for set up. Does not repeat. I'm used to beeps repeating if something goes wrong.

The installation of the cpu and heatsink was way too smooth to have caused any injury to something vital.

I had removed sound card, video card, and uplugged usbs, and was down to very little..and got the beeps.

Anyway. It's smooth as can be in anything else.

DISC is SATA...all by itself. Everything else is IDE. It cheerfully spins and bios/cmos says..sata and seems ok with it as a sata master..no jumpers.

Ok..I havn't looked at a partition in I don't know how long...it was with "Tony the tech"...he had me do one..we worked for days on a problem I swore was hardware, he swore was software...(mobo had to be replaced...twice till they used Asus.)....that was it and forgot a lot. But do remember choices of fat, fat 32 and ntfs...I think he had me using the windows 98 boot disc...so..I'm really foggy on it.

When I saw...,I remembered it means asking for partition, C: Partition1 [(New Raw)] 381544 MB (# free) on (#mb's) Disk 0 at id 0 on Bus 0 on ATAPI (MBR)

Ok...all together now, guys....a big collective "DOH!"

Mmmmmmmmmm Ok..windows in...a lot of drivers in. Both drives read nicely. Some drivers don't like xp 64...when the heck are those guys gonna get into it. It's not like it didn't signal it's coming loud and clear. I'm hoping the company has A: fixes B: drivers that can take their places like my burner..after it's driver exploded. A front loader so that was the end of that drive. Put in a nice drawer..use a freebie driver off snapfiles..works great.

There's still sound to go...and those fans...and getting the wireless to work. I know there's some connections lost in the pile somewhere..but mostly ran out except power ones..

I'll look at it tomorrow..but since I can't get the d link wireless to get me online..this gives me an excuse to get Greg the wireless guy out who does his own buisness out of his home. House calling IP, computer fixit guy, set up guy, and just all around get-it-to-work guy. Maybe he can help me polish it up and get rid of that darn beep. He put in my router for the laptop.

It would be so good to get this going well...one of my sons is in Iraq and is due out of there very soon. (counting down) He's a gaming freak. So by that time I hope this will be fixed...and the beeps resolved...and the stupid fans working....and all that sound.

My first computer curiosity started with an IBM IBM 305 RAMAC..first harddrive ever, we called penelope...all of a whopping 4.4mb. My first husband was a programmer/systems anaylist. I sorted more of those cards then I can remember. There's a bit of computer history.

The fact that it works, doesn't complain or crash and does anything I ask it to do...as far as I can take it....nice when online. Sure gonna miss my old clipboard...I'll be using "Trusty-Rusty" anyway and let the soldier play with the other one. If he wants to set up a dual boot..that's kewl. He has a 32 bit xp. Not a recovery disc. 400 gig disc is plenty for that.

But...hey...I got it to work..mostly. lol For me that's handspring time.

Need sound, internet, case fans...and the end of that babeep - beep beep beep beep. Only once after I hit F1 which it still wants me to do to go into windows. And that's it till next time. It's when it gets past the Asus picture on the screen with SETUP on it...just before hitting F1...I get my beeps one time.

The mobo book..doesn't really have a beep section...but everytime I look it over I find something I missed...so I'll go to it again tonight.

I'm beat!

Those fans were the beep. I located the chassis fans on the mobo and plugged 'em in and lo...fans....no beep. Heck with that fan card. I just won't be able to control fan speed with the case front control...like I care as long as it runs and cools.

Now if I can get sound and internet...I think I'm home free.

Thanx for replys and welcome.

I still can't believe it works. Just smooth as can be.
