Newbie Needs Some Help in Linux!

OK, I was bored and decided I would try Linux on this old crap computer I had in my room. I had a copy of Gentus Linux 2.0 (Red Hat 6.1) that came with my new Abit motherboard. This old computer had one of those proprietary cd-rom connectors on the sound card. I had to tell it what type of cd-rom during the installation so it could read the cd, and it installed fine. Now when I start up I have no cd-rom support. How do I enable new hardware, specifically a cd-rom? Also, while I'm at it, how do you set the computer clock from linux?

you have to mount the disc each time a cd is placed into the drive. The difference between windows and linux is that linux does not mount drives, rather it mounts filesystems. If there is no cd in the cdrom, there is no filesystem...hence it cant be mounted. I would suggest picking up a beginner Linux book to do some light reading...
