His link doesn't work, but entering Q9450 in the search box brings it up. Looks like Intel's actually following through on their promise to release product. But those low multipliers really don't tempt me, not to mention the early-adopter price...

I guess since my existing chip has an 8 multi, I could live with this particular Yorkfield, but I'll wait awhile. Good to see them appearing in the channel!

My guess is that running this thing at 3.2 GHz is taking candy from a baby, and that bumping the voltage up a notch makes 3.6 very reachable. A 3.6 GHz quad! :Q

nice...price is a little too high when you can get the retail xeon equivalent for cheaper at other sites (i think i saw it at tankguys for like $20-30 less). i guess thats what people pay for if they want it first!

The whole Newegg high price on the 45nm CPUs thing kind of bugs me as well. But, I absolutely love doing business with newegg, and these CPUs have been kind of scarce soooo.. it's sort of a tossup.

Oem anything in cpu's these days should be out. For $10 usually you can get a 3yr warranty. Keeping in mind every Intel chip overclocks like crazy these days why a 30day warranty? Even 90 day? Not even considering overclocking I still don't want a cpu that's more than what I consider throw away cost to die in 6 months and have to eat it. That's a crappy deal for $10. I can't imagine the look on my face on a $380 cpu at a 6 month funeral...ROFL. It's like being kicked in the balls. I can't imagine a $100 cpu with that happening. I'd still be pissed unless it was 2 years later. OK, maybe 1 yr. I upgrade to fast for 2yr to be an issue...

But still...For most it just plain sucks.

Unless you overclock/overvoltage it to death, that CPU will last you for far longer than 3 years. Never had to RMA a CPU in my entire life.


BTW, it's out of stock before newegg could even raise the price...

I think I got the same message probably from the same birdie. I would of ordered the OEM if I knew that they were going to have them before the retails. They listed the retail on their site before the OEM. There goes my plans of building my new system this weekend.

I'm not building for a month, but figured I'd get one in case supply dries up. Hopefully, will make it to 450FSBx8 on a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4...

you shouldn't have any problem hitting 450fsb on that mobo. You could probably do that on the stock cooler for that matter. One of those downward-facing cpu coolers will probably be quite handy for these new penryn quads since they're likely to be fsb-limited and should benefit from addition nb cooling.
