NewEgg's pricing?

So I know that I shouldn't be complaining, but what the heck is up with how they price. Just yesterday I bought a video card for 279.99 and now it is 329.99. Normally isn't it the other way around?

When their inventory of an item is getting low they automatically raise prices. It should go back down when they get more in-stock. If they kept their price the same, it would be sold out by now. They way Newegg does it, people who really want the item can still get it even when the stock is low, they just have to pay more.

Autogouger.

When a page gets a lot of hits in a brief period of time they tack on $20-50 (or more, depending on base cost of item) to snag some additional profit.

I've seen it happen within just a few minutes of looking at a pair of DDR3 sticks at $79, ten minutes later I looked again and they were $129 (I was pissed - I was linking items helping a newb with a build). Two days later they were back down to $79 and they've stayed there since.

One thing to keep in mind - if this happens in reverse (ie the price drops significantly a day or so after you order) just contact their customer service department & they will actually credit back the difference to you.

I had this happen with one of those cheap 8800GS deals about four-five months ago. Bought at $70 and two days later (before it was even delivered) the price dropped to $50. Got on their online chat, gave the invoice number and within five minutes got a $20 credit back onto my card. That's service for you. Even though their prices have been creeping up I still go back for that reason alone.

That's really cool. I didn't realize that they did that. I will have to make sure to look and see if anything has gone up in price that I bought recently/

We truly apologize for any inconvenience. All Newegg pricing is determined collectively by our Marketing and Purchasing Departments. Generally our prices meet or beat the current market value. As a result, if the manufacturer and/or our competitors lower their prices, it is likely that we will follow suit in order to remain competitive (we do not price match, however). Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with more specific information at this time. Industry prices fluctuate so often and in accordance with evolving technologies and the nature of supply and demand, it is near impossible to accurately forecast future pricing. Nevertheless, please contact me at 800-390-1119 ext 25040 or by email at alex.a.villarino@newegg.com and I will go ahead and further assist you in this matter.

Fast is right.

I've been linking a G.Skill 2x2GB DDR3-1333 kit for a lot of people looking for cheap DDR3 memory.

When I first bought the kit four months ago it was $125 (dirt cheap at the time). About two months ago it dropped suddenly to $80 with free shipping. Since then I've watched it bounce between $80-130 almost continuously. So when I tell people to use those sticks I recommend the wait until the price is right.
