Does anyone know if there is any nForce2 motherboard come with the RCA/S-Video output? I am going to build a machine with AMD2500, 512MB PC2700 ram. This is just for the regular used not my gaming machine, the nForce2 onboard video is good enough for the purpose, but it is nice to have the TV-Out as well.

BTW, are there any reason that I have to order 2 256DDR2700 ram for nForce2 MB instead of 1x512DDR2700? Thanks in advance.

"Have to" order is really a suggestion. From what I've seen, the performance of the nForce2 IGP will take a serious hit if single-channel memory is used (one stick) as opposed to DCDDR.

Yeah, NForce 2 IGP recieves a hefty boost if you use DC DDR as opposed to one stick, it's advisable if you are going to use the IGP.

the MSI IGP comes with a tv-out add on that it comes with. You lose a PCI slot, and MSI claims that no one makes an nforce 2 IGP that supports 400 FSB, thus they only support 333.....I found this out months after purchase. Not sure if other motherboard makers agree. IGP barely works unless you have dual channel, then it works like a Geforce 4 MX (I have both MSI IGP and ECS motherboard/asus Geforce 4 MX) I think you would be better off getting a $60 Nforce 2 ultra 400 and Geforce 4 MX agp card for $40.

Thanks for all yours reply. Since there is no nForce2 Ultra400 MB with the TV-OUT, and most of them are close to $100, so my best bet will be getting a cheap nForce2 Ultra400 MB and another cheap MX card. Can you guys please suggest some nice graphic card with TV-OUT (prefer S-Video). Again, this is no a gaming machine, but it will running under Windows2000 Server, probably playing some real, mpeg, dvd thru TV.

What about the $61 Shuttle AN35N-Ultra? Is it a good board for AMD XP 2500? I don't need any fency features on this machine.

As you guys suggestion, I do need 2x256DDR PC2700 RAM to take advantage of nForce2 board. Any recommentation RAM from newegg? I have Kingston 1X512DDR PC2700 currently running on my Intel 2.53 machine and it didn't give me any problem.

Thanks again.

The suggestion for the need for dual channel is valid only if you choose to go with integrated graphics. If you decide to get an add-in AGP graphics card 1 512MB stick of RAM is just fine.

As for which video adapter you should get, I'm not sure. I have a MSI Ti4200 with TV out, it works pretty well and I would assume their MX should also be fine. And, for the motherboard, I have heard good things about the Shuttle you are looking at, and was thinking of picking one up myself.

Just want to make sure I got all the information correct. I am going to order everything from Newegg, Shuttle AN35N-Ultra, AMD 2500 and Buffalo Technology 512MB 6 Layer PC3200 DDR Memory Module CL 3 32X8 (Infineon Module) - OEM. For now, I am using the onboard video, as people suggest that I should get the dual DDRam, but I may get the video card later and down in the road, it will be easier to get another two RAM.

Anyone seeing problem with the above config? Thanks in advance.

the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra does NOT have onboard video. It IS $60 at Newgg. The Albatron KM18G has onboard video and TV out for $94, but the tradeoff is lack of 400mhz FSB support. Supposedly NO Nforce two with onboard video (IGP northbridge) supports greater than 333 mhz FSB. you can get an EVGA Geforce4 MX 440 for $49, an ATI 9000 pro for $57, or a Geforce 4 Ti4200 for $85. the AN35N-ultra with geforce 4 MX would perform better than the IGP, support 400Mhz FSB, and cost only $15 more.

Also the EVGA geforce 4 MX is passively cooled, so it the AN35N-Ultra, while the Nforce2 IGP usually comes with active cooling.
