NFS Porsche on Win 2K?

Anyone know what will determine if Need For Speed - Porsche Unleashed runs in Win 2K? I have talked with people who encounter no problems at all, and with others who have the identical problem, which is as follows: After runiing the intro video sequence, the game starts loading, then says there is not enough Virtual Memory and increases my page file, putting total memory useage over 850MB according to the Task Monitor, which reports that most of this memory is being demanded by a file called Porsche.ICD, which I think has something to do with OpenGL, but I am very likely to be wrong. I have DX 7 installed, and am quite hesitant to install DX 8 because the software DVD player included in my system (MediaMatics) refused to work with DX 8 the last time I had it installed, and because the only way I know of to uninstall DX 8 is to format my HDD and restore the system software. Any ideas are especially welcome.

i have the same bug in win2k adv. server using: bp6, dual 466@546, 384MB (should be enough wouldn't you say), guillemot gf2 pro (det3 v6.31), directx 8.0, service pack 1.

i have played the game on this box using a tnt2 and either pro or adv. server instead (don't remember which of the two).

i haven't tried installing NFS-PU since i made the switch from win98 to win2kpro(w/ SP1), i will try it tomorrow and let you know if i have any problems.

Im running win2k, p3 600e, p3v4x and asus v7700 and ive gotten porche unleashed to work on 2k but this was right after a format and clean install of 2k.

what video card and drivers are you using?

i have nfs: pu installed in win2k pro with a TNT(1) with 5.xx drivers.

win2k detects my card but the drivers it came with wouldn't run nfs: pu.
