In other news "The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly close to signing free agent center Jason Allison"

:Q LA just got stronger Can you imagine him with Pallfy? :Q wow.

Cheers,
Aquaman

I think that Palffy is a free agent, Allison is definitely a free agent; rumours send him to Tor.

Kariya currently talking to Edm, LA, and Mtl

- edit -
rumour: Toronto, aggressively pursuing Palffy to replace Mogilny

A fans pipe dream really. We (tor) have 10 mill for 7 or so players. We're gona dump some major salary for next season for sure.

Philadelphia Flyers - Traded defenceman Danny Markov to Nashville for a 3rd round pick in 2006.

Los Angeles Kings - Sign free agent goaltender Jason LaBarbera.

I saw LaBarbera play this past season in the AHL, and the AHL all star game for the Wolfpack. He's a very good goalie and I'm surprised the Rangers never gave him much of a shot.

Rangers are fine with young goalies. Lundqvist and Montoya are the future of the franchise.

Yeah I think the Rangers have some young talent between the pipes and losing LaBarbera is no big deal. He's been up a few times a didn't show too much.

WTF are the Rangers doing? They haven't signed Leech yet. Get this man a contract and let him retire as a Ranger.

Thornton Staying Put
From a source, "The Bruins are in talks with the representatives for Brian Leetch, I had that confirmed today. Also, I had confirmed by a close source to Mike O'Connell that the Bruins have no interest in trading Thornton at this time. Speculation is that he may sign the qualifying offer, and then try and work out a long term deal with the team. He will most likely sign the qualifying offer only if nothing is worked out by the time the season starts. People within the organization are expecting that he will sign between 6 - 6.5 million, and that it will be anywhere from 3 to 5 years. I am hearing that the EARLIEST Thornton would be moved, if at all, would be in season if they think they will not be able to work out a long term contract. So for now, the "Thornton being traded" rumors, at least from people I talk to within the Bruins organization, are dead. He is not going anywhere in the near future."

Forsberg and the Habs [w00t!!!!]
I promised my friends in Montreal Fan990 that I would do something for them...so I made some calls and it is true that the Habs are in now in talks regarding Peter Forsberg. That is a jersey I would buy. (by the way I am kidding about calling around) (maybe)

more Info...
Khabibulin to Chicago is about 90% done.
Allison to Toronto is definite.
Thornton is still rumored to be moving to the Leafs now, but Boston has come out and said, "We are not shopping him."
Pronger. Florida Word is Mike Keenan overpaid Niewendyk and Roberts to show he was serious about building a team and thus making Florida more attractive to Pronger.

Agreed, and maybe that's why he never got much of a chance, he has been the best goalie in the AHL the last two or three years though. I don't follow him enough to know if he's just the type that can't handle NHL pressure...

Yeah, from what I'm hearing the B's want to build around Thornton and Sammy. The fact they got Murray again tends to make me believe that is what they are doing. As for Leech, he has been awesome over the years, but I'm not sure how much he would help the B's on the blueline. He is getting pretty old...

Florida adds to their lineup even more with the signing of Martin Gelenas. Wow, First Neuwendyk & Roberts and now Gelinas. Got to love Free Agency where a team can go from a has been to a cup condender with a few good free agents.

Anyone else amazed we've made it this far with this thread without one "hockey sucks" thread crapper?

Montreal WILL sign a big name, Gainey has already announced that much. He actually said he wanted to sign one big name forward and a big defenseman, they have the money and the cap space for it. Who these players will be, I don't know.

I've heard and read Lecavalier, Kovalev, Kariya, and Selanne mentionned before; this is the first time I hear Forsberg. My order for these players would be Forsberg, Lecavalier, Kariya, Kovalev, Selanne. I'd much rather see them grab Lecavalier or Forsberg though, the Habs need a big power forward.

For defensemen, I'd heard Aucoin or Gonchar, but Aucoin signed with Chi and I'm not holding my breath for Gonchar. We'll see if they pick up anyone or not.

Oh, I'm sure. I wouldn't be to worried about any of the other names you mentioned, just Forsberg.

I heard the B's were going for Gonchar, but I'd prefer they don't. He can be a offensive force on D, but he's pretty much just a winger playing defense. I don't think I've ever seen him throw a check, and he routinely gets caught up ice.

He does dive a lot though...so maybe he'd be a good fit.
