Well, they needn't bring too many carcasses, since they won't be scoring too many goals.

Seems like almost every prediction has the Canucks coming out over the Blues

I'm happy.

From past experience, you put a lot of traffic in front of The Eagle and he cracks, starts taking cheap-shots which gets the refs attention, then he blows.

It's a meltdown after that.

Hmm, after Snow playing well and Lalime cracking under the pressure... I might want to change my earlier prediction to Isles in 6.
Interesting night tonite...

I'm still rooting for Mr. Vezina candidate extraordinaire, Martin Brodeur. Man, some brilliant saves in a very tight game tonite.

Nothing like being misquoted, Wingznut. My exact quote was "Like I said, Dallas has the best goalie of the playoff teams, PERIOD". I then went on to explain that he is the best goalie of the remaining teams that qualify for the playoffs, and I think he will carry that into the playoffs and not choke. I'm done posting in this thread, because people here can't even copy and paste a simple one line quote. Much less follow an argument in a thread. How pathetic!

Anyway, my beloved Stars are down to Edmonton. We need this game to get even in the series. Go Stars!

But to state "Turco is the best goalie in the playoffs, PERIOD.", basing most of that on a regular season stat, is not very solid. ESPECIALLY when talking about the playoffs.

Last year, Jose Theodore was the league MVP and had an excellent GAA. Too bad it didn't carry him past the second round. Oh yeah, and his GAA went up to 3.07 in the playoffs.

Conversely... Last year, Patrick Lalime had a 2.48 GAA and was ranked 19th in the league. In the playoffs, he stepped that up to an ungodly (and of course league leading) 1.39 GAA. But again... It was only good enough to get the Senators to the second round.

Like has been said before... The Stanley Cup playoffs are a whole different animal.

Hey wyvrn... Why don't you look at your first post in this thread, dated 04/07/2003 10:31 AM (that's PDT... you might have to do a little math to compensate)... At any rate, you'll see that I quoted you exactly.

(I accept your apology.)

Blarg. Ya the Canucks choked bigtime and the game really sucked, for me anyways!

The Detroit/Anaheim game was good to watch.

Yep you are right Wingznut, I did say that on my first post. But I've since changed my argument given that the first statement wasn't entirely accurate nor what I meant to say. I went to great lengths to explain that and never edited my original thought. What do you have to gain by quoting something I have since openly refuted myself?

Anyway, I'll use your tactic on your post, just for grins:

Last year, Jose Theodore was the league MVP and had an excellent GAA. Too bad it didn't carry him past the second round. Oh yeah, and his GAA went up to 3.07 in the playoffs.

Theodore plays for a team that basically sucks. According to a recent ESPN.com article, "Montreal missed the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons, the worst postseason drought in the franchise's championship-laden history." For the last 5 years, his GAA is 2.5. And the ONLY year in the last five Montreal made the playoffs is when Theodore had his MVP year and a 2.11 GAA. So quite obviously there is more wrong with that team than just their goalie. They lost in the second round because the TEAM SUCKED.

wyvrn, Turco is an excellent goalie. Turco is a better goalie than Tugnutt. You make a good point about comparing the two.

I know I did, but thanks for the confirmation

This looks like the year of the upsets again. Minnesota, Islanders, Anaheim, Edmonton? They won on the road too. That's what's funny.

I am going to go on record right now and say that all four of those team do NOT make it to the Conference Semis. I would say Minnesota has the best chance of the four, and I just think the Avs will take them out.

wyvrn, I'm not trying to belittle you by quoting you... or anything like that. Don't take it so personally. I am actually agreeing with you that Turco is an excellent goalie.

However, I can't believe that you don't see my point. That point being that you can't use a single regular season statistic to crown someone the best goalie still playing.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. There's more to being a good goalie than GAA. The other night is a perfect example. He played very well, but then gave up the one VERY SOFT goal. All it takes is one mistake to lose the game, or even the series. (Well, I guess FIVE mistakes, if you are the Canucks. )

I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE SOME OF YOU PICKED TAMPA OVER WASHINGTON.

Hahahahahahaha what a joke that team is. As a 10-year Caps fan, I've been looking for good competition from those punks from the Bay since the puck first dropped on Thursday. Instead it's been mistake after mistake and the kids can barely get into the offensive zone. They better prove me wrong next game... this is getting ridiculous.

Bunch of rookies...

I don't know jack about hockey and rarely ever watch it. But I do know, Anaheim is up 2-0 right now playing on the road in Detroit.

And since I don't know much, I shall root for the local team.

Did someone say something about inexperienced goalie and being swept? I suppose its only fate that we shall add another championship team to Southern California.

I blame the Wings lack of scoring more than anything else. I'm sorry, but 3 goals over 8+ periods of hockey isn't going to win squat.

Yup, I'm surprised how well the Ducks are playing, but like last year the Wings could really turn things on if they want to. Time will tell if they want it bad enough.

I think this is a little harsh. Tampa Bay placed so high in the regular season because of a very hot goalie. They are definitely not a joke. They have two very young and very promising players, plus one great goalie. The problem is that the Caps have some great offense that Tampa Bay can't compete with. If they can add a couple of good defense men, plus another scoring line, they will be a very good team for years.

The Caps biggest weakness is their defense. They are shining against Tampa Bay because Tampa can't take advantage of this weakness. There are lots of teams that will be able to (Colorado, Detroit, Dallas, Ottawa, St Louis, maybe Toronto).

And really, let's save the gloating for when the Caps' $70 million payroll gets them out of the 1st round. You need to win 4, not 2.

Agreed, but when players like Zubrus and Nylander are getting points (goals even), then Washington will be a very tought team to beat.
