Just curious... whats the difference between PCI-X and PCI-E?

Since PCI, PCI-X and PCI Express are all compatible, all three can coexist indefinitely.

untrue, pci and pci-x are compatable, but pcie is NOT, pcie is a serial interface while pci and pci-x are paralell interfaces. compeletely different.

pci-x is a longer pci slot that is faster, its 64 bits wide instead of normal pci, which is 32. sometimes, pci-x is at a higher clockrate as well, some operating as high as 133mhz

No. PCI-eXtended remains a Server standard. I dont know how long it will last their until PCI-E comes in.

One thing that i would like to know is the 64bit PCI-X. What is PCI-E. If it is 32bit, would moving to a 64bit (i guess transfer rate) slot do anything for performance?

Apples and oranges. PCI-E is between 1 and 16 bits wide, but it's serial. Totally different.

I think that by "compatible" they just meant that they can hang off of one another, the way that consumer mainboards use a PCI-E lane to implement PCI slots.

Most server motherboards already have both PCI-E and PCI-X, PCI-E will overtake in the server department just as well as the home market.
