I picked this up Saturday after seeing the posts here. I am going back to PM. For those of you who have purchased it, be sure you go to the sonic blue website to pick up a new firmware . After you flash it, you will see the battery indicator on the remote.

Did they sell it to you for $30 with out MIR or anything like that? Cuz I might just return it and buy for $30 to avoind the MIR hassle if that's the case.
Kev: u still have to send in the rebate that Circuit City has to get the $50 bucks. They just took off $20 bucks from the retail price. I was just saying Pm'in it is just another way to get the deal if Best Buys ran out of the player.
well, seems like the nike program wont detect my player anymore... It detected it for a few minues before, i started transferring songs, and the program froze. Now its back to not detecting it.... hehe oh dear
oh yea, it was detecting the player fine before i updated... im also runnin xp.. wonder if it dosent like it
Not being into the .MP3 scene, so to speak, the advice I got here at anandtech was to consider, as a more expensive / satisfactory alternative for my kids, was:
CDs, .WAV, .MP3, 650MB+, 45 second anti-skip, .... >>
cd players suck for working out. too big and too easy to break. mp3 players have no moving parts and are so light.....
why doesnt a company come out with a mp3 player that supports multiple flash cards? like 4 of them - just like computer memory so we could get 512megs of songs - it isnt like the flash memory is very big...
Anyone else having trouble with the mini-jack plug? The headphones included I hate, so I'm using mine, but the jack is kind of wierd. It won't work sometimes, its gets disconnected. Just overall very bad plug.
Funny... Ebay is filled with these, selling ofr 75-90 bucks... However this is same thing and same price for ciruit city after thanksgiving sale. Funny how all of the ones on ebay say 'UPC removed'

Anyone have a line on cheap MMC cards? Smartmedia is way too large to fit in this unit's slot, for those with a little bit of SM laying around thinking SM will work with it.
ai42 - The plug is not entirely symmetrical. The plug goes in one way and not the other. The player so far has only had one hiccup for me where the remote did not work. I turned it off/on and it works perfectly.
Very cool deal. Even if you don't purchase an MMC to upgrade, you can still convert your MP3's to Windows Medica Files for use with the players limited storage capacity out of the box (32MB). WMFs are a lot smaller, and you'll be able to carry a good number of files - even on 32 MB.
Cant find the player on their website, I search for 'Nike' - no results. Then go and list all portable mp3 players, its not there. I also looked for the Nike rebate form and it wasnt listed either! I wanted to order this for instore pickup.

I drove over to BB as soon as I saw this tread and was so pissed off when their shelves were empty... I called the other store in town and they said they were sold out... I was about to leave without asking a salesperson when I peeked behind the counter and saw a whole stack of them... I bought 2. Great gifts! So if you go to your local store and they say they are sold out, go peek behind the computer area counter!
Make sure your unit is on and workining. You can test to see if it works if anything appears on the remote LCD. If it does, work plug it into the usb cable and make sure the unit is on. Im betting it is a HW problem as my player is flaky. But if you wanna try another software you can use WMP7, go here for more info:
Ok, well without changing anything.. just pluggin it in and unplugging it about 10 times... it works now... haha it was on the whole time, so i have no idea.. oh well thanks for the help
Yes, you can use other software to transfer tracks to the player. I've been using the MusicMatch Jukebox player to do this since the included software is pretty horrible.
Picked one up from Circuitcity website on black friday, been using it since.
This little thing is not perfect. it always has flaws. One time it wouldnt play until i had to open the lid and take out the battery and put it back in !! Weird indeed
remote given me no problem yet (touch wood) but i am not suprised.
I also flashed to new firmware and working just fine with my DELL laptop running WIN XP Pro.
New Firmware shows battery indicator and also solve the problem of short battery life.
with WMA format i put on 17 songs on the native 32 meg
DOnt use the remote if you want long battery life
Also only MMC media known to work 100% with this is SANDISK !! Use others with your own risks
Not a perfect player but hech with $29.99 what do you WANT ?
