To anyone using an additional MMC memory card: does WMP or the Nike program recognize it as two seperate amounts of RAM? Like 32MB and 64MB? Or is it a combined 96MB?

The Nike Program has a pull down menu to where you save it to, and the default is something to the effect of "internal memory" so I assume they are seperate? Not sure, going by frys pretty soon to get a MMC card. Also the big question is how badly does the flash card effect battery life?

<< Hmm....I don't think I'll try it until I hear more successes What else is gained by the firmware upgrade? Just a battery meter on the LCD? >>

Yes I sucessfully upgraded the firmware (but on a win2k machine), it does add your battery indicator, which apparently it has on the LCD, but the old firmware did not use. And from several posts on various site, the new firmware seams to make battery life longer? not sure how that works but ok.

Thats good that it's not fried, but I wonder what's causing your problems? I don't know if I should upgrade the firmware or not.

<< I think i might have a USB power overload problem...

Just got the program to star transferring some songs, it gets to 90% of the first one and then freezes... Not only that, but my keyboard turns off (USB also)... Im so confused... I have to unplug my keyboard and then replug it back in to get it workin...
>>

aphexII, what motherboard are you using? My USB seems to be giving me trouble too. I have 2 USB ports. One is hooked up to my cable modem and the other was being used by the MP3 player. When I was dumping MP3's onto my MP3 player, both modem and player stopped working. I had to unplug both and just use one at a time. Weird!

My specs:
AMD Athlon 1Ghz w/ IWill KK266 mobo
Windows XP Professional
Firmware on MP3 player not upgraded
Using Windows Media Player 8.0 (drivers from Nike CD not installed)
Re-encoding MP3's to 64K WMA's
Cable modem: RCA

You can pick up a 64MB MMC card at NewEgg for $48+5 shipping. Its Mr. Flash Brand OEM, but does it really matter to have a piece of cardboard and a plastic bubble.

They are treated as separate. The pull down menu allows you to select which one you want to add/delete songs from. So you can't have a song that starts in one memory to continue to the other one. It is possible to carry around multiple memory cards with songs on them if you got the dough to buy those extra cards.

you can get the firmware update at www.riohome.com look under support and nike psa 60. Its easy, its a self-executable file. Just install the software (cd), reboot, flash using the nice little proggy, wait til it updates and your good to go.

I've been using it for the last 2 1/2 hours and I've had no problems at all. I love this thing! Can't wait to sport it around the gym, sure beats the hell outta a walkman or gulp....a CD player :disgust:

No problem writing to the memory, installing the software, or getting the remote to work.....get it before its gone!
I'm thinking about going back to BB to get the last one and clear out any remainding ones they had, these would make really sweet gifts for my siblings.

1) For those who either bought this from Circuit City on Black Friday or are buying it at CC through Price Match there are 2 respective rebates available ($50). Just go to circuitcity.com, then go to REBATES, then PORTABLE ELECTRONICS and youll see rebates for :

Diamond-Save $50 off a PSAPLAY60! 11/23-11/24/01

Diamond-Save $50 off a PSAPLAY60 MP3 Player! 12/2-12/8

2) The remote does not have a back-light right? I have one of these and would love it if the remote had a back-light but its not mentioned anywhere, but I was hoping that mine was just a defective one. Can someone confirm this?

Mine doesn't either, and its not mentioned as a feature anywhere. Probably a good thing as a backlight would suck up the juice out of that single AA pretty fast!

In WMP 8.0:

Goto TOOLS - OPTIONS - DEVICES
Select the Nike PSA Player (make sure it's hooked up)
Click PROPERTIES
Click SELECT QUALITY LEVEL
Move the slider to desired bitrate (64K is supposed to be "near CD-Quality", and it sounds pretty good)
Click APPLY and OK

Now, all MP3's transferred to your Nike PSA Player will be re-encoded to 64K WMA's all the time. It's very convenient, but obviously has its disadvantages.

If you want a seperate converting program, try www.download.com and look under MP3 stuff.

Hope it helps

Kevman- If you're looking to purchase NiMH batteries, you can go here and take a look around:

http://www.ripvan100.com/

These are the best rechargeables I've used, and I've used a lot of different brands. You may want to give them a shot.
