Nike Plus runners

Who all uses the nike run kit for the ipod nano? I think some AT forums user challenges would be fun.


So far i have had mine for 1.5 months and logged close to 70 miles. How far have you guys gone and have you found that it increases your motivation to run?

Wish they'd come up with one that worked with the Shuffle. It's like the thing isn't even there when I'm running or working out and I really don't want to shell out for a nano just to use Nike Plus. Who needs a screen on their workout mp3 player anyway?

have about 100 miles in the past 3 months...was running 3 miles a session (two/three times week but took a few weeks off during xmas/new years )...running about 4.5M a session now and will try to do it 3-5 times a week...

I have the nike kit and a polar heart rate monitor that I can download my workout stats to my pc...

just curious, where do you have your nano when you are running? what do you do with the headphone wire? I have the armband and run the wire down the inside of my shirt and out the sleeve but it still gets annoying, but not as annoying as having it outside my shirt...

Curious: how much was that whole setup? It sounds awesome, but I can imagine it cost some bucks.

i have the polar s410...it was around $200 when I got it...you download the workout data by holding the back of the watch to the PC's mic while it makes that old modem noise...the watch with USB connection was around $400 or $500 back then...

it is pretty cool stuff as it tracks alot of workout data...i can post a screenshot of the data when I get home...

the nike kit was $30, my nike+ shoes were $75, the armband was $29 (cheaper ones now) and I went ahead and got a new black 8GB nano...

the one thing I hate about the + thing is that even though you change the distance measurement to 'feet', it still counts down the remaining distance in 'meters' as you approach your goal (when doing a distance workout)...

if you were doing a 3 mile run, it will tell you have completed 0.5 miles, then 1.0 mile, then 1.5 miles, 2.0 miles, 2.5 miles then 400 meters, 300 meters, 200 meters and finally 100 meters.

4gb nano and charger = $130 after tax (Staples coupons)
1 samsung arm band = $10 but tossed after 4 uses
1 nike+ arm band = $30 velco came unglued after 12 uses
nike +kit = $30
shoe pod = $8 including shipping, so i would not have to buy nike shoes.


anyone have trouble getting it calibrated? My sister had to calibrate hers several times. Mine calibrated great on the first try.


i use the armbands and run the speaker wire up the sleeve of my shirt. I use sony ear canal phones that have an extension that i take off.

I have the nano and the Nike+ kit, but I don't have the Nike+ shoes. I haven't used it yet but really want to once it warms up. Any thoughts on how to use this in normal running shoes?

Also, where do you guys wear your armbands? I've wore mine running before and always have a hard time finding a good spot on my arm for it.

I just wear the armband so the nano rests on my bicep...

In general, I do the same, but put it closer to where the deltoid ends so it moves the least amount, but doesn't chafe my armpit

But if you set the nano for US measurements, it should not be providing any metric distances. That was my point.

The apple store guy tried to tell me that the apple arm band would hold the nike kit, but without actually opening one up, i couldnt tell you if it would fit or not.

There are several, but i dont think i could tell you what they are anymore.

I guess i should mention that i have the 3g nano.

on the back of the arm band, there are two spots where you can attach the velcro strap that covers the kit, one for use with the nike+ kit and one for without it...

Thanks for the picture... I may go out and get an apple band. I am trying various glues on the busted velcro of the nike kit before i purchase another.

I don't think so. It measures your distance based on each stride taken. Cyclo-computers work really well for tracking your distance, speed, time, etc. If you don't have one, I highly recommend it.

If you want a basic decent gps with good bike use, try a Garmin Foretrex 101. They are under $100 at Amazon and I love using it for odd trails or random rides to see elevation, distance, speed, etc. There are ones that do better, but this is cheap enough and gives me the basic info I like as I don't need a heart monitor since I have a wrist one.

you can get a good cyclocomputer for $40 if you shop around...you can even get a wireless one so you dont have to run a wire down the fork for the sensor...

bought a basic wireless catseye one for $50...wow...they are going for $32 now...
