Well, it uses flash memory. I'd bet on 6 and maybe 8gb capacitates within a year but not much more. Although, hopefully this can drive the prices of flash memory down as production increased.
There are advantages to having a smaller capacity as it forces you to cycle your music. The music selection on my 20GB Zen is pretty stale at this point. Also, this should be a lot more durable than a hard-drive based player.
According to the ThinkSecret article the 4GB flash chips are sold out till the end of the year. And AFAIK no 8GB chips exist. Not that it's that hard to add more capacity. Apple could simply make a slightly thicker (like 3-4mm thicker in the end) version of the Nano and add in 1 or 2 more flash chips (ie 8/12GB capacity).
I do agree that even with 4GB it should be sufficent for most people. Just because you have 1000GB of MP3s doesn't mean you need to carry it around with you at all times.
