My system -

Asus K8NE Deluxe
AMD 3000+ 64bit processor 2GHz
2G DDR RAM
128MB 6600GT Video Card
160G HDD
240G HDD SATA

500G external Buffalo HDD

The system was running all fine on windows XP. Then it started to go slow. I decided to reinstall the OS. I tried backing up my stuff into the external drive ... saw that it was going way slow even though the mobo supports USB 2.0. I thought maybe i need to upgrade to the latest BIOS .... it was running version 1005, when the latest out there was 1011.

So i used the ASUS update that lets you upgrade the BIOS from within windows without having to use a floppy disk and going into DOS. I downloaded BIOS version 1011, and flash it.

Upon reboot, there is no display, no beep, nothing.

I tried clearing the RTC RAM, but no use.

How do i go back to the old BIOS version when i cannot even get the display working?

Any clues? Google didn't pull up any helpful troubleshooting hints.

Thanks!

try disconnecting the power cord from the pc, then pull the battery, and let it site for 15 minutes, then reconnect the battery and power and try booting the system, you may have to put the monitor on the onboard video plug if the board has one.

If necessary, also bust out your K8N-E Deluxe manual and read the info on page 4-5 and 4-6. If your recovery efforts happen to bring up the Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS recovery... prompt shown on page 4-5, then you could try recovering the system by putting the BIOS file on a floppy diskette or a CD-R for the motherboard to attempt to install it.

If your system has a floppy drive and you notice the system's trying to read it despite a blank screen, you could give it the BIOS file on a floppy and see if it is, in fact, attempting a recovery (give it some time, wait for activity to stop, then hit RESET).

Long shot, though Good luck!

well, i tried removing the battery and setting it aside for about 15 mins with no success.

I even removed the video card from the slot. I don't hear any beeps during boot cycle. All the fans seem to be working though incld the video card, cpu etc etc

mechBgon ... i am not even able to get anything on my display .. so that section of the manual is of no use.

Like I said, it was a long shot. If it seemed to be accessing the floppy drive as if it were looking for a BIOS to recover, you could give it a shot regardless.

One bail-out option is to get a new BIOS chip which is pre-programmed with the latest BIOS. http://www.badflash.com/ With the system completely unplugged, you'd remove the old chip using a puller and install the new one.

Robisbell,
I tried your way ... disconnected the cmos battery for over 30 mins actually. Then plugged it in, and saw no change.

Yes, I do have a floppy drive, but i'm sure if it'll help because, i don't hear any beeps whatsoever while powering up the PC.
I'll try it out though ....
