I build computers locally for people. My latest project is my grandpa's computer, which I was supposed to build quick. Well that isn't working out so well.

A person I sold a computer to's computer stopped starting, so I agreed to look at it. Figured the processor went out on it. My grandpa's computer I booted up once just fine, to test it out. I then put his processor in the broken computer, which didn't work. I also put the broken computer's processor in my grandpa's computer...didn't work. Thought it was a bit odd.

Put my grandpa's processor back in..doesn't work. Bought a replacement. Put it in..still doesn't work.

I've tried nearly everything, breadboxing, disconnecting everything...I even took it all apart and put it back together.

Specs : amd 2500+, Asus A7n8x deluxe, 400 watt Ahanix PS, radeon..7000? videocard.

Help..I'm at the end of my rope here and I'm all out of ideas. It would almost seem the motherboard is toast, but I can't imagine how that happened.

EDIT: Forgot to mention...Computer's fans spin up just fine, green light on the motherboard stays on as PS is plugged in..everything seems fine other than nothing is popping up on the screen.

If you have disconnected EVERYTHING from the computer except for
the Power switch header
CPU/fan/heatsink
sound cable to detect beeps,
if no beeps - you know now there is a prob with either
CPU/MOBO/PSU

take your pick

Yeah, i've done it..and no beeps.

Any way I can use a multimiter or something along those lines to check to see what's broken?

Well - you know for sure that there is a problem with either
psu
mobo
cpu
speaker [forget about this one for now - just make sure it is plugged in properly]

It is now down to you to do some swapping out/replacing.

I would try the easiest, but most unlikely first - psu.

My personal bet would be a problem with the cpu or mobo

It is a pain in the arse - I just had to do the same as you , and found it was a problem with the mobo. - RMA'd - now works well

Switching CPU from different motherboard is not a good idea. CPU doesn't work well with uncompatible motherboard. U'd better test CPU by a special tool. Check this site to see if u can find a solution. http://www.freshdevices.com/cpu_test.html

The A7N8X Deluxe has speech diagnostics. Do they say anything? You probably tried resetting the CMOS by now, but if you didn't, that's a step to try.

I don't believe you are sick of building computers but it is your hobby of love.
I know how you feel I had same problems while helping people they always depend on me to fix it. So it is worth learning something new you never know.

The CPUs were an AMD 2500+ and 2800+, no issue of compatability.

The speech diagnostics say nothing.

Well, it's not the PSU, the processor, the videocard, or the RAM.

That pretty much leaves the mobo. Any way I can test it to tell what's wrong with it? I have a broken motherboard of the same type here, anything I can do with that?

Well, i'm reviving this. I got a motherboard and CPU, both new...and guess what, still doesn't boot. I'm going to switch out my powersupply later tonight, even though I tried it before, but something is definately odd here. And it's really, really irking me off.

Well, switching the power supply didn't work..but switching video cards did. *sigh* I tried that before and it didn't work. I'm so confused by all of this...is it possible that the motherboard, processor, and videocard all got fried simultaneously? If so, should I ask the power supply maker to pay me money for all of this?

Are you checking to make sure your mobo isnt being grounded on the case? Make sure you use the rubber little washer things for the screws when you screw the mobo into the risers for the mobo. I had the same no post problems before, and was told if the mobo connects improperly to to metal in the case, and creates a ground, you will get no post. Might wanna check that out.

Yeah, I've seemed to figure out what the problem was. Somehow the mobo, processor, AND videocard got fried. The computer that I'm fixing (it was the person's that broke) wasn't on a surge protector. Could that do it? Could the power supply could have done it?

Ya a power surge can blow out most any componet. You would be crazy not to have a surge protector.

I made the mistake of no surge protector once and fried my cpu, mobo, vid and sound card at one shot. So yeah, it can happen, sorry for your luck mate.
