No sound on A7N266-VM

I just finished building a new PC. It is an Asus A7N266-VM running an Athlon XP 1800+, 40GB Seagate HD, 256MB DDR RAM. I am attempting to use the onboard sound, but I must have missed something.

Windows XP detects the sound card, and the device manager doesn't report any errors. I can play an audio file with no errors, however, no sound comes out of speakers or headphones.

Alright, so, I double checked everything, speakers have power, software volume control is set to max, try line-in, line-out, even mic, still no sound.

On another note, I tried installing another sound card. I'm not really sure how to explain it, it outputs sound, but its squelched and staticky.

Anyone have any ideas what causing this?

Sorry to ask the obvious, but Mute isn't on, is it? Welcome to the Forums btw

No, mute is not on Or at least it wasn't while I was testing the onboard sound. Perhaps I should rephrase my question. Currently, I have installed a ES1370 AudioPCI Sound Card. It only outputs this squelchy kind of static, instead of decent sound. I am using windows default drivers, downloading ones from Creative right now. So yes, currently mute is on, but just so that I don't get the static that is coming from ES1370 right now.

In the nforce control panel, are your speakers setup right in the speaker tab? I think the default setting on mine was digital.

Also, refer to page 28 of the manual that shows the 10-pin AAPANEL header. Locate that set of pins on the mobo, they're oriented horizontally. As you look at this header, some of the pins should have jumpers on them. It should look like this:

If the jumpers aren't all there, cap the pins as shown and see if it works now.
