No sound on my P4PE????

For some reason I'm not getting any sound when I hook up soundblaster 4.1 speakers when using the Sound Max onboard sound. Is it possible that it was disabled in the bios or something? I looked in the bios but I don't see anything to disable the sound. Am I missing something???

Gonna sound stupid, but you sure you hooked everything up right? I've made those stupid mistakes of plugging my mic into the headphone jack :frown:. Beyond that, are you sure the drivers are installed. Last but not least, try pluggin in headphone or something and see if you get sound.

Yes - the onboard sound can be disabled in the BIOS. It is in I/O Device Config, and the setting choices are AUTO or DISABLED. (Onboard AC97 Audio Controller.) Test it with headphones.

Thanks guys, I did find it in the BIOS.

I think what the problem is that I don't have the right cable from my speakers. I have some Cambridge Soundwork speakers that about 3 years old. The Digital output cable coming from the subwoofer doesn't match up with the SPIDF input plug. (diferent type of plug) I guess I lost the plug or it just doesn't match. It works fine with my SB Live card. So my next question is which card is better? Does running the onboard sound card take anything away from the performance of the motherboard? I heard this from someone that you should run PCI sound card because it's less CPU intensive? Help me out here....
