No Sound with WMP9

Needs some help with this. I was having a sound problem with WMP9 so I decided to reinstall windows xp and start from the begining (it was time for this anyway). So after a clean install, WMP8 (default) worked fine. I went throught the process of updating all of XP, office 2000, and Norton AV. All up to date and now WMP9 won't put out sound again. I have all up to date drivers for sound card. In fact, if I use winamp, there is no problem. The ONLY problem is with WMP9 and sound (I have video just fine). Any clues?

WMP9 was nothing but headaches for me. So, I decided to stick with 8.

Unfortunately, I can't really go back to it without having to reload everything, which I am not willing to do at this time. For now I am using Winamp.

This is probably best suited for the software forum...

However, it sounds like a codec problem. What are you trying to watch? Is it an AC3 DivX movie by chance? Just grab the proper codec and install it. Or make sure you have the right codec.
