Noise from fans

I bought a FOP32-1 so that I can overclock my Duron 600 and I must say that it is kind of noisy. Maybe not that much, but I watch a lot of DVD on my computer and it is annoying. Before I had a Pentium III 450 Mhz and it was pretty quit. Am I the only one who is bothered by this? Does all new fast computers make a lot of noise, do you have to use a noisy fan to be able to reach 1Ghz and above?

I currently have 3 fans on the cpu. One on the heatsink (taisol) , another right behind the cpu blowing out of the case (Y.S. Tech) and another 80mm fan from an old power supply blowing onto the memory, cpu, chipset. It DOES make alot of noise. I'm planning to rework the whole thing when I get some new fans.

The key to quiet fans is large fans at low rpm. I'm ordering some 120mm fans that have a noise rating of 30db but produce 57cfm airflow.

I have seen posts somewhere about people lining their computer case with special sound absorbant material. The material is meant to be used in cars that have nice stereos. I think you can get it at a car audio store. Sorry I don't have more specific info.

I feel your pain. I have a FOP-38 (even noisyer than the FOP-32). I've recently tryed to cover it (partially) with a bit of cardboard. It's reduced the noise a bit, but I'd still like it go go down a LOT more. The best noise reduction i've found so far is to put a pillow infront of the computer, but it's not exactly practical.

i have 2 ultra noisy case fans in my casing. Thoose fans are rated 40db and i have 2 of em plus one orb. is that louder than yours??

I read somewhere that there is three different versions of the FOP32 with different fans. I think I got the light model witch is 36 db (Decibel) The powermodel had 50-something db. Does anyone know a good site where you can compare the db-rate between different fans?

I tried to move my computer around the room but it didn't help much. I switched back to my old PIII 450@558 Mhz. Ahh, much quieter. I'm seriously considering keeping with my old trusty PIII. I figure there are quieter fans out there, but there must be some penalty in cooling instead? The other reason for keeping my old PIII is that I'm planning to buy a Radeon All-In-Wonder (When it is available here in Europe. Anyone that knows when?) and my power supply is only 230 W so if I go for the Duron I probably have to by a new power-supply too.
