Noize and temperature

Hi!

Im running an athlon 1800 xp with a thermaltake volcano 7 cooler on an asus 266-e motherboard. My temps. are: (using asus probe) full load: mb 32, cpu 57, idle: mb 29 cpu 53. Are these temps "normal", anyway i can improve? Another thing is the noize. The thermaltake volcano 7 cooler is making a lot of noize. its running at about 4000-4200 rpms. Is there anything i can do to reduce the noize??

My temps for comparison running a 1800 on Dragon, o/c to 1612 is

Idle: 29 mb/ 40 cpu
Full: Not sure, will have to get back to you sometime

Get the new bios update for that asus mobo.

Ill bet you wooden nickle that your current bios has the core voltage set to 1.8 instead of the 1.75.

Once you download and install the new bios, you should run 7-10 degrees cooler.

Remember that you can only compare to other Asus A7V266E mbs. Each socket-a mb reads temps differently....

.05V does not result in 7-10C drop in temps. THe A7V266E and other asus mb's use more compensation in an attempt to make socket-thermistor readings closer to actual die temperatures. Other manufacturers use less compensation, therefore the readings are "lower". However, no socket-a board has anything close to accurate readings.

built 2 of these boards and did result in 7-10 degree temp drops.

Never said any mobo temp reading was accurate, but the dif. in temp after flashing new bios was undisputable (same mobo, cpu, software to measure temp)- The only thing that changed was a lower temp.

I have the newest bios (1004b) and it does not have an option to set voltage to 1.75

does anyone know if u can set it ti 1.75 volt in the bios??
