The last computer I built was four years ago (P4 2.26), and that's still the one I'm running now, so I figured it's time to build a new one. I'm on kind of a tight budget (about $1k), but I don't overclock or anything, so I figure it won't be too tough to put together a system. Here's what I have so far, keeping in mind that I probably won't be ordering anything until late in the month or early next month:
Intel C2D E6300 Processor $200
Intel DP965LT Motherboard $140
Lian Li PC-7B Case $85
Seagate 7200.10 250GB HD $90
A 7900GT Card (dunno what one yet) Maybe $230 by the end of the month?
SeaSonic S12-380 ATX12V 380W Power Supply $70
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 $150
Generic Keyboard + Mouse $20
$985 before tax/shipping
Already have a relatively new Sony DVDRW Burner and an Audigy 2 ZS Card + Speakers. Since my monitor is a gigantic 21" CRT -- which looks gorgeous but pulls in so much power and gives off so much heat that I don't need a heater in winter -- I also would like to get a new 19" LCD screen. Obviously, that would put me overbudget by about 200 bucks, so I was wondering if there's anything else I can skimp on without jeopardizing the longevity/functionality of my system.
Also, I've never overclocked in the past and don't really plan to with this system, but if I wanted to try it out a little bit, would these components be able to deal with, say, a little overclock to 2GHz? I don't have to if this stuff can't handle it, and I wouldn't upgrade in order to do so.
Thanks for any help.
