So I have 2 pretty old (One is 2.5 years old, one is almost 4 years old) western digital 120 GB drives (WD-1200JB drives). My motherboard is not capable of RAID on the PATA drives, just the SATA, and I heard that its possible to mirror two folders accross different computers, so I figure it must be dooable between 2 drives. Anyone know how to mirror these two drives with a free utility or in windows? I dont have more than 120 GB of stuff to store, and I figure one of these might go down soon, so mirroring is the safest bet.

Well, the "safest bet" is to keep backups.

You can also buy PCI RAID cards for IDE for $20 to $70. You can plug your IDE drives into them, run RAID 1 from them, and, as a side-benefit, can move the PCI card and the disk array to any other PC in a few minutes.

But you still should keep backups, RAID or no RAID. RAID doesn't protect from worms, viruses, fire, theft, flood, accidental deletion or overwrites of files, RAID management errors, or RAID controller failure.

The thing is, all I want is a utility that is effectively just does a backup of the drive I have everything stored on, so that whenever I change add/remove a file, it is reflected on the backup drive. None of the data is actually important at all, i just would be very annoyed if I lost it.

Just perform an incremental backup nightly, and a full backup once every couple of weeks or every month. Windows Backup will work just fine.

You could get SATA to PATA adapters, but I would recommend just editing those files in the first reply.

RoboCopy (Robust Copy)

It's a free Windows command line utility that can be installed from the ToolKit. Very easy to use, free and very useful.
