Now, I know that these two cameras are in different leagues. I currently have the a350 in hand, but a friend of mine convinced me to go with a 40D instead (so i don't want to open the box and am currently selling it in NIB condition). The reasoning is that if I find that I'm a crappy photographer at least the resale value will be close to 100%. In addition if I invest in lenses for a good camera I won't have to lose money on those as well. The last reason is, (although i know it's the photographer and not the camera), I haven't found any great stunning pics with the a350. It's almost discouraging, where the 40D has many spectacular shots that i've seen (probably with crazy expensive lenses, but at least I can see the potential that i could never reach). I know the good points of the sony is it has swivel live view, small size, IS is in body, and 14 mp. What do you guys think?
Is the learning curve for a beginner pretty steep?
EDIT: and my goals are shooting action shots, family photos, landscape, and night shots. And what do you think about refurbs from ebay? was thinking of using LCB on ebay to get a 40D
