Hi, I'm a complete nub at this, so please don't laugh at this probably really dumb question.

Alright, so I just moved into this house, the landlady has a wireless network setup. What exactly do I need to get to connect my desktop pc to the wireless network?

Like, do I just buy a router which will connect to her router? or... yah, nub.

All you should need is a wireless network card, if she is giving you permission to connect.

so there are wireless cards for desktops? all I get are descriptions for notebook mobility when lookin at cards...? I was looking for a slot on the back of my pc... don't think I saw anything... hmm, k. will check.

They make both USB and PCI cards.

ahh. got it. Gotta get a pci adapter card. A usb adapter won't connect to a regular wireless router, it only connects to a usb router? And I have to get the same make as the router right, or else it won't work?

No, you can get either USB or PCI. The only difference is how it connects to your computer. You can also buy any brand. The only think to make sure of is the type of wireless. All 802.11b devices talk to each other, and all 802.11g devices talk to each other as well as to the b devices.
