Staples is going to have Norton AntiVirus 2009 for 1 pc free after a $20 easy rebate and a $20 upgrade rebate. SKU 758728. My subscription from the 2008 version I got free after rebates last year is about to run out, so this is great timing for me. Starts Sunday, Feb 22.

Page 4 of their Feb 22 ad which is up for viewing on the staples site.

Easy rebate offer 09-70001 comes as a $20 Visa prepaid card.
MIR offer 08-31507 (upgrade rebate) also comes as a $20 Visa prepaid card.

I also have heard that Symantec spent a lot of time and energy making Norton less bloaty and cumbersome. It's memory usage, resource usage and overall footprint is much smaller than previous versions and rivals or is faster than many of the popular choices known to be efficient.

I'm not running Norton these days but based on the fact that it's actually getting lean and mean, I might consider it this time around.

I very well might pick this up also especially since I have a $10 off $40 coupon and $3 rewards.

No thanks especially after Symantec stiffed me on the previous upgrade rebate. Sent them the old CD and got nothing in return.

Zip, zilch, nada, nothing, the big "donut!!" :disgust:

Norton 09 is amazing. I was skeptical at first too, based on my experience with their software in the past, but Norton 09 is hands down the best they've ever done.

Installs in about a minute on average, uninstalls in the same amount of time, no more default blocks on Windows file/print sharing in the firewall, etc. It's really good stuff. I'm using NIS09 on both of my PCs.

And if you really, REALLY need to shut it down if you have a problem, SymNRT (norton removal tool) works well after an uninstall fails (have yet to see that happen with Norton 09).

MaximumPC did a review in their January issue of 10 different AV apps. Norton IS 09 came out with a 9/kick ass, and the only other app to come close was Eset Smart Security. Check out the issue in PDF format here.

Shutting down the 2009 version is actually quite simple. All you have to do is stop the single Norton service (I set mine to manual in services.msc) and you won't even be able to tell it is installed minus the icons.
