I was off, but let's do the math. It didn't take it for that second... that's the point. The motor fell into pieces.

RSX-S gear ratios (taken from http://www.acura.com/models/model_specs_index.asp?module=rsx )

1st: 3.267
2nd: 2.130
3rd: 1.517
4th: 1.147
5th: 0.921
6th: 0.738
Reverse: 3.583
Final Drive: 4.389

Ok... red line is 8000 rpm (source: http://www.epinions.com/content_69181935236 )

so, from 5th to 2nd would be a ratio of 2.130 / 0.921 = 2.3127

2.3127 * 8000 = 18501.6

So I was off, but 18500 is still fast as hell, and the motor is still shot because of it.
Right, but my point was that the engine likely never made it that high before it went bye-bye.

Yea thats what i thought... I've heard of people blowing heads and stuff at like 9k so 40k couldn't be too good for the engine but what exactly does NOS do? Is it just a richer fuel mixture that increases HP?

I saw a full out drag crx that would hit 15k with ease. It was n/a though. F1/Indy cars take some pretty sick rpm's too but nothing close to 40k. So to summarize, your friend is an idiot of immense proportions.

Tell your friend to let off the gas when the NOS is cranked up real high. You will get some real speed then my friend.

I know of engines that can hit 35,000RPM.

Little 2-stroke R/C engines will do it.

Your friend is a crack head. Even with the 350 shot I've got in the maxima it never peaks above like 15k when I'm dragging.

Geeze... kids and their "NOS"...

First of all... it's not "NOS"... Nitrus Oxide is N2O... NOS is a brand name, like Vice Grips...

Second... nitrus oxide is an oxidizer... it's 2 parts nitrogen, 1 part oxygen... in other words, 33% oxygen. By itself it is not flammable in any way. However, what does a fire need to burn? Oxygen. Our atmosphere is about 18% oxygen... so there's almost twice as much Oxygen in N2O as there is in the normal air. If you know anything about internal combustion engines, the more oxygen you have, the more fuel you can burn, and the more power you can make. THAT is why nitrus oxide increases power. Just adding N2O on your car won't do much except burn holes in your pistons because adding oxygen will lean out the mixture and a lean mixture burns hotter... hot enough to melt you aluminum pistons... you have to add more fuel as well to keep an optimum air/fuel ratio.

As far as the RPM go... 40,000 RPM with an internal combustion engine is impossible. It just can't happen with today's materials and the laws of physics. The rotating mass (crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons) cannot be made light enough and strong enough to withstand the forces created by spinning it at 40,000 RPM. The forces on a connecting rod at 8,000 RPM is tremendous... which is why there are few piston engines that are capable of turning that fast.

On a side note... nitrus oxide is not the same stuff at the dentist office... automotive nitrus oxide is not approved for "human consumption" and has many impurities in it that will kill you if you inhale enough of it... so don't get any ideas you druggies

NAAAAAWWWWWZZZZZ man....

40K RPMS would result in your cylinders going through the hood, btw. Tell your friend to step away from the crack pipe...

I was going to slam you for having a busted sarcasm detector for your last post, but I decided to pass.

But this I can't overlook. yu0 = teh dumbx0r.

Edit - Oh yeah, I drive a riced-out 98 Civic EX with a Boeing-sized wing and VTEC stickers, and I'm getting NOS tonight! BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!

Dewd I've got an aftermarket tachometer installed on the hood (too big to fit on the dash) and it hits 15.1k at the my shift points!

Merc has seen the car at the track. It's a 10 second car all running stock internals too.

My bottle is so big that I drive a modified propane truck!

Edit: when I say I do 10's in the quarter, I don't mean seconds!

Well I did. It's gonna be running the 1/4 in 5.5 seconds soon and it's street legal on stock tires with stock tranny and it looks stock. It's the fastest car in the world. It pulls 5 G on the skidpad and I can do the slalom at about 145 mph.

Oh yeah the mods only cost like $1000 too.

I guess you have the bottle installed in the car but the hose or pipe (dont no not familar with NOS) cant be connected to the engine. He cant even get insurance right now. btw this is ontario and its a new law to condone street racing.

not really new... probably seems new since that damn movie popularized the use of NOS... but that law has been around for awhile now.

nitrous

NoS is the name of a company
