Weird problem here.

I have an 8 port Linksys switch and 16 port Linksys Hub.

The problem was when my PCs were on the switch, I can login, receive DHCP address, resolve names so on and so forth. But copying files across the network is way too slow as well as browsing the web. The nics were set to 100MB/Full Dplx and new cables.

Now, I moved all of them to the hub, everything is the nice and fast. Altho I did set the NICs to Auto Detect, [i have Intel and 3com nics].

My setup is: Cable then Linksys Router then W2K running NAT then the rest of the PCs

I don't think the NAT or DNS was related to the network lag but how is the change in the hardware [from switch to hub] the resolution to the problem.

Dunno if this helps but I had a box with a 3com NIC that was dooooog slow. I swapped the 3com for an Intel Pro 100 and away she went. All the rest of my boxes were running Intel NICs so I just figured 3com and Intel didn't get along.

I would RMA the switch.
See if a new one works better.

When you're trying to do Full Duplex everything has to play ball or you'll get resent packets and whatnot out the ying-yang if you're lucky. Unlucky and you'll just have an artificial broadcast storm on your net.

Im gonna try these suggestions. It just seems odd that I would get worse performance while using faster hardware.
I did try using auto detect while on the switch and that didn't change the results.

I didn't have any of these issues when all my machines were connected to the Linksys Router [4 port switch]. It was after I had created another networking segment using nat and another 8 port switch that I noticed these.

Do you mean you are running NAT off of win2k?

Why would you do that?

Try setting up both the switch and the NIC's as auto-detect. Generally its a good idea to keep switches and the equipment they are connected too with the same settings, i.e.- auto-detect or if you do hard select it at 100 make sure the port and the NIC are set for 100.
