I have the above computer, it has 2 open slots for expansion.

1/1) PCI-E x1
(1/1) PCI-E x16

I really wanted a usb 3.0 card, so I bought this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (2 Port Rear & USB3.0 20PIN Internal)

I was able to fit it into the x16 slot fine, however I didn't realize the power cable connection it has is IDE, and my computer has SATA power connectors

I also didn't realize I didn't have any open power cables.

so.. I am wondering if something like this would work, so I can get power to my usb 3.0 drive.

unplug the sata power cable to my dvdrom and plug it into a splitter with 2 sata plugs:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-P...cable+extender

plug one of those back into the dvdrom.. and plug the other one into a sata to ide converter cable:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-LP4SA...de+power+cable

which plugs into my usb card.

is this too much? should I just buy the first cable so I have 2 open plugs.. and return my usb 3.0 card and buy one that has a sata power connector?

Lastly.. I wanted to ask what the 20PIN Internal slot was on the usb 3.0 card?

Newer motherboards have the 20 pin plugs built into them, I assume the 20 pin would plug right into it.

It's not IDE. It's just a generic molex PC power connector.

I also didn't realize I didn't have any open power cables.
That's the common case with most big OEM PCs. Saves them a few cents.

Yes. But, does it work without it? I would imagine it is to supplement it, but most devices will be fine with power supplied over PCIe (I think 25W for non-video cards), unless the card only gets port power by that connector.

A header for front USB 3.0 ports.
