But you're not pushing a book, using a pencil, manipulating a real object or even a representation of a real object. You are not in minority report.

So the Note S pen isn't like a pencil? We aren't in minority report, but I'm saying that it could be the future.

You are using a phone with a small screen. I don't want it to feel like the real world, it inst the real world. It should react according to its own rules.

Why should it react to its own rules when there are the laws of physics of which it can abide to approach realism?

Maybe you should contact google to stop their glasses project. It doesn't stop at the phone and tech will be more apart of you than you realize.

the last thing I want is a skeuomorphic approach to touch input whereby we have to do it one way because that's what a book would do if you pushed it.

Oh look, you learned a buzzword. It's not just a book, it applies to everything due to physics. I'm not exactly sure why you prefer input lag. Would you prefer it if there was a 1 sec delay to everything you did from jumping to running?

A lot of swipe motions in touchscreen software mimics the turning of a book page. A book's page bows slightly as you begin to push before it flips over.

Your hand is still on the page and or behind it as you turn the page. There isn't a delay.

Hey guys,

I have just purchased my first Android device, and even after extensive tweaking, cannot get rid of this ridiculous input lag.

There are a few threads about this (xda, hard), and I am hoping by bringing the issue up here, we can get some more exposure to the problem.

Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egsC87LnFZ0

Threads:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1730089
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38178332

Tweaks I've tried:
CleanRom 4.5 + Perseus 1800 CPU OC / 733Mhz GPU, stweak settings that give the below benchmark figures
Various build.prop tweaks including:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003062 (no effect)
Tweaks to heap size, fling speed.

This is not an fps/low performance issues. I have exceptional benchmark performance:
~17300 CPU in Quadrant (~2400 / ~980-1000 3d/2d GPU, ~7700 overall)
20FPS Egypt HD On Screen (19FPS off)
~2050 Vellamo 2.0 (680 Metal)
~2330 Geekbench (~2000 Int, ~3400 Float, ~1680 Memory, ~790 stream)

No issues with button lag, app opening time, everything is incredibly smooth, around par with my wife's iPhone 5, but the input latency is incredibly annoying. You can see this by turning on "Show Touch" in Developer settings, and dragging your finger around the screen.

Please leave the iOS vs Android, denial comments, OMG you're too sensitive comments at the door.

TOO LATE!!

:awe:

Are you sure it's not a rogue app dragging the system down?

Another thing to consider is defective hardware. These Exynos chips do thermal throttling, if the chip isn't making contact with the heat spreader it could be overheating at idle.

No its more of a Touchwiz vs other OS skins type of deal.

No it's not because the HTC One X did the same thing and didn't have Touchwiz. The Motorola Atrix I had before that had the same thing and it too was not running Touchwiz.

The Nokia Lumia I had didn't do this neither does the Blackberry Z10 or the iOS devices.

Unrelated: I like the interface on my Atrix 2. Its actually a little nicer and easier to use than my Note 2.

The same absurd input latency is present on the Note 3, S4, G2 etc. They're not too bad on their own but when I touch an iPhone 5S and see how fast the keyboard responds I'm blown away every time.

Talk about latency. Your iPod couldn't keep you from resurrecting a zombie thread.

The N3 doesn't have any noticeable latency. And wasn't there something once about the N3 besting just about everything in touch response? I kind of halfway recall it, but I don't put all that much emphasis on such uselessness.

Edit: looks like s44 posted it.

The problem with those tests is they're performed on some blank touch testing app. The latency spikes to 150ms or worse almost every time the device is under load such as scrolling and having to load images in the list etc. Latency is of utmost importance in games and games are where the device is under maximum CPU and GPU load and where the latency rises to unacceptable leves. Fruit Ninja for example is unplayable because of the visible delay in swiping.

Lol. Not a big Fruit Ninja fan personally but of course there's no issue what-so-ever playing it on my Note 3. Any other made up "benchmarks" we can cough up?

I found the N3 to be blazingly fast and not laggy at all.

Just swapped my N3 for an iP5, going with a LTE Retina Mini/iP5 combo for daily carry.

Looking forward to the next Note though, I'm impressed as hell with what Samsung is doing with it.
