I currently have a 30GB 4200RPM HD in my iBook. It's too small and slow. I want to upgrade to a new one. For about $150, I can get either a) 60GB 7200RPM, b) 100GB 5400RPM, c) 200GB 7200RPM Desktop Drive + External Enclosure.
Since I will be doing mostly BT, websurfing, programming, watching videos, listening to music, etc (not gaming) on my iBook, which would be the best bang for the buck? Which would not affect battery life? Would any having extra heat? Are there any external enclosures that don't need an AC adaptor (connect to 2 USB ports or something)?

I think you need to ask yourself what's your major concern?

If its speed then the 60GB 7200RPM drive is probably the way to go, AND your doubling your capacity.

If its capacity then the 100 GB 5400 RPM is the way to go, your getting a bit faster speeds AND your tripling capacity.

You could always go with the 60GB 7200RPM for the speed factor, and at a later date, if you realize you need even more storage, you can then get an external.

EDIT: I see you also have a desktop. Why don't you bit torrent through that? use that for storage and your laptop for surfing, videos, programming, music, etc.?

If that's the case, I'd go with the 7200 RPM and you can always add another drive to your desktop.

I have my desktop in my dorm. I go home on the weekends. Since I can't use BT in my dorm I use it when I get home with my notebook.
I think I might go with the 100GB 5400RPM drive. For my situation I think a 7200RPM drive won't be needed.

Use the external enclouser. Then get PC Anywhere or some other software that will allow you to remotely log into your home computer from college so you can keep track of your torrent downloase.

I don't have a computer at home that I can use. That's why I bring my notebook home on the weekends.
