here's a link to some really good deals i found:
Link

THIS IS NOT A HOT DEAL POSTING!!!

Making the above clear, I am confused about which system to get.

I have a capped budget of $850. In this price, I'd like the following:
Processor: Athlon 64 3000+ / P4 2.8GHz or better / Centrino 1.5GHz or better
RAM: 256mb min, preferably 512mb
Harddisk: 40gb pereferably running faster than 4200rpm
VideoCard: This is the part which I cannot decide! I want the most capable video card the above moolah can get, hopefully with at least 64mb ram.
Screen: any size will do. smaller the better.
Battery life: around 3 hrs would be good.
Optical Drive: a CDRW at the minimum, DVD/CDRW would be good, a DVD Writer would be the bomb.
and oh, I'd need Wireless LAN.
those fancy media card readers would be also good.

so here's my required specs. Lets see if the ATOT effect can get me a solid recommendation. Of course I'll happily welcome the offbeat humorous remarks against me

Because this is Off Topic and there is a forum dedicated to Notebooks.

I would buy the
HP Pavilion dv1000 notebook, Pentium M 1.5GHz, 14" WXGA, 256MB, 40GB, DVD/CD-RW Combo, XP Home, 802.11 b/g Wireless LAN » only $844.10 + Free Shipping

why would you buy the dv1000? it has a slow hard drive, Intel Extreme Graphics (whatever that is) and so so battery. so any reason why you make that selection?

Because IMHO it's the perfect balance of power/portability.

Otherwise go for the HP 7000 if you want raw power, but it's a BEAST weight/portability wise.
