Notebook trouble. I needs help.

I have this notebook. It seems to have died on me. It's about 4 years old and is a Dell. The screen shuts off by itself sometimes now and I have to restart to get it back on. But just now it shut off automatically, the entire laptop, that is, and when I restart it is says there is a software/hardware problem that won't let me restart. It restarts trying to load windows on Normal and any other mode.

I think it may be a PSU problem. But the thing is that I have good data in that HDD, is there a way that I can connect a Notebook HDD to a Desktop, is it the same type of connections or.. Idk?

I would like help troubleshooting the Laptop and the HDD connectivity problem. But mostly the HDD is what I need access to.

you could find 2.5 enclose (not sure the spelling) hard drive with either fireware or USB to a desktop. Hopefully the data still intact you can retieve all data you need.

Hey, when you plug in the ac adapter to the wall and the laptop do you notice the green LED going out? also have you tried hooking it up to the ac power but with the battery removed? these might sound funny but if you notice any of the keyboard status lights flashing for a little bit I can tell you what will need to be replaced.

Try this - remove the battery and run only on the A/C adapter.

As for the hard drive - you can simply remove it from the laptop and install it in an external enclosure (USB or Firewire) and access it from any other computer to save the files.

You could also get an inexpensive 2.5" to 3.5" adapter (about $7 or less) andconnect it as a secondary IDE drive in a desktop.

It seems that after leaving it on for a while. It kept restarting and finally restarted. Must back up NOW!

A friend of mine has a relatively new dell (under 2 years old) that shuts off all the time for no aparent reason. One second you're listening to music, the next you're looking at a dead screan. It still starts back up fine (sometimes it reboots several times during the process)... but it's most anoying. Either way, hope you fix your problem. If you determind what was causing it please post and let us know. I'd be curious to find out if the same thing could be applied to his lappy.

With the battery in, when you plug it to the wall - I see one yellow blink and 2 orange blinks.
