I think pretty much everyone who understands film shares your opinion. I come to you with a warning though, don't watch the sequel, Holocene. It's bad. BAD bad.
Too late. Watched it as soon as it was available and yes, it didn't seem like the same people involved in the original had anything to do with it. It was more like a cheap immature not-promising-at-all undergraduate film project.

I've watched all three Atlas Shrugged movies. The stories are good but the actors, ugh, spare me the torture. Wish it had been picked up by some decent studio that could hire actors worth their salt.

Drive My Car - Japanese film nominated for a couple Oscars this year including Best Film and Best Foreign Feature Film. No English dubbing but if you prefer to watch foreign films with subtitles in the original language, as is best, then it's fine.

It started off slow, to the point the gf and I thought it was going to be terrible and we almost faded out of the movie, but that turned out to be just the intro - it turned out to be a 3 hour movie and shortly after we had started to consider turning it off, that's when we started getting drawn in more and more to the characters and the pace became better. There was some excellent poetic dialogue and poignant moments and you start to really care about some of the characters. By the end whether we agreed with some of the messages of the movie or not, it was a pretty powerful representation of the human condition and certain philosophies of life and love and the struggle between.

DUNE (Part 1 of ..................)

3rd attempt , better than the 1st, better and worse than the second but still left me wanting. Probably better if you have never read the books. Changes in characters and a lot left out. Central story is still there but to do DUNE correctly it would have to be "Lord of the Rings" long.

Great sets, location shots and special effects and I so want an ornithopter, star of the movie. Casting was OK and Ill watch Rebecca Ferguson in anything but Paul did nothing for me. Duncan was phoned in by Mamoa (as usual).

Worth watching but hard to rate.

Quentin Tarantino

I think you really have to imagine it is the 1950s to 70s to understand his films. Deathproof defines his films for me. Saturday afternoon, thrown out of the house with 35 cents to go to a flick and popcorn or nickle a box cheap candy.

oh yeah i agree, i think this is an overlooked film. The "double feature" is worth watching, even though it's not perfect.

I generally like to leave this out and pretend it doesn't exist, because it's not really clear how much he had part in making it happen. Robert Rodriguez did the other film and i suspect that he was far more involved in a practical, everyday way, than QT was.

WTH??? I didn't even know that was directed by him. So different from the others.

The Adam project 7 out of 10 - Was it predictable, yes it was. However it deals with the death of a loved one, which hit home with me. It also has quite a few Marvel film actors, which I liked.

The Adam Project 6/10 boring first half gets better in the second half. But it is a kids movie so don't expect much.

Dog 7/10. It was ok.

Spiderman The One After The Avengers 2012 (Homecoming, ok?)

which was cute but ultimately just a bunch of "spider man can do this" moments strung together. But Michael Keaton was good.
Idk, i liked Tobey Mcguire much better and i also like the previous spiderman plots because they were mostly a retelling of the story of Spider Man, which is a cool story. This one, not so much. "Spider Man wants to join the Avengers" sounds soooo much like a "part 2" to some film i haven't seen.

Spiderman The One After They Kill Thanos (Far From Home)

which i actually already seen, had to get to the water elemental scene halfway through the film to remember "hey, i actually already watched this pile of shit". That's how forgettable this endless cavalcade of CGI is.

all this because my friend is insisting i watch No Way Home and i wanted to give myself at least a fightin' chance at liking it because it's gonna suck, i'm so sure.

Watched the Batman over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a nice departure from Nolan's Batman movies in that Matt Reeves puts an emphasis back on Batman's detective skills, there's little to no fancy schmancy "gadgetry", and there's a whole lot less artificial fake Batman voice. Robert Pattinson's Batman voice is more of a gruff whisper than Bale's "trying to talk normally but you have a 2 lb loogie stuck in your throat". The movie is quite long at an eye-popping 2 hours and 56 min, but I think the film does a good job of putting you on the edge of your seat by interlacing segments where the Batman investigates a crime scene (suspense, thriller, a la the movie Se7en) followed by spectacular action sequences (this Batman clearly fights with an intent to injure and does not give a fuck about his opponent's impending medical bills). The introduction of the new Batmobile was a treat, and the following chase sequence climaxes in what is arguably the film's money shot. If you weren't convinced that Rob could pull it off, you'd think again. The rest of the cast do a fantastic job at playing their respective characters, with particular praise for Collin Farrell's Penguin and Paul Dano's Riddler. The 3 hours did not feel too long at all and I thought the film was worth the price of admission. 8/10.

Old Henry - 7.5/10
(DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER)

Tim Blake Nelson stars alongside Stephen Dorff in this brutal Western action film. Both actors are fantastic, great dialogue, good writing, superb acting, realistic, no cgi/green screens.

The Dropout is meh so far. Amanda Seyfried is bad for this role. She's great to look at but doesn't really resemble Holmes. And her actually displaying emotions??? Didn't she watch any Holmes interview? Holmes is a robot. She can hardly convey any emotion through facial expressions. They should have just paid Holmes. She may even do it for free at this point. One last hurrah before imprisonment.

You're being generous here. TBN is always great, and the acting was good from everyone involved, except the son, who is terrible. And the story is veeeery minimal .. i'm not gonna talk about it here because i know i risk spoiling the whole thing.
IMHO needs more script, i would have moved the "big reveal" far earlier in the film, and that's all i can say.

THE CAPTAIN 2017
I just stumbled across this movie and I was amazed how good. B/W 2017 German language film. Showtime has it free on demand with english subtitles. Even if you don't like subtitled movies, this you will like and the subtitles are not too distractive.
A non-english version is available FREE on youtube, but with no english subtitles.

Watch At least The first 15-20 Minutes. You'll be hooked.

Ending Credits Scene

Very intense, realistic film about a runaway Nazi soldier (a private) that finds a Nazi captain's uniform and then goes around impersonating a German captain.
Weird part at the end during the credits, the cast in full Nazi uniform driving the same battered vehicle used in the film, they drive into the modern day town where the movie was apparently filmed and act like Nazis harassing the people and taking away their cell phones while modern day cars drive by in the background. A bit of a humorous touch by the director. Imagine, Nazis walking around the streets of New York harassing people and confiscating cell phones and personal items.

Do the Beverly Hillbillies know Nazis got their truck? I think it might be Christine's bro.

Ghost Rider aired on one of the cable channels recently I got halfway through and then accidentally deleted it. The old cable company, Cablevision, had a remote DVR that ran on the company servers. Then they were bought by Altice and everything went to sh**. It's been so bad over the past year that the BPU (board of public utilities) launched an official inquiry. Do you have any idea how bad you have to suck to get the BPU involved?

Anyway, I couldn't finding airing on any other channel in the near future but I like the movie enough that I dropped 8 bucks on the DVD. Came today. So I'm gonna finish up A Discovery of Witches (chick series but I'll watch virtually anything with demons, witches, vampires, etc. Not real crazy about zombies though) then crack that puppy open. I need to see if I can find my old dvd "liberator." I don't mind paying for content but I'm NOT watching commercials and promos. Just not doing it.

i watched the last Spiderman, No Way Home, - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10872600/reference/ and it was substantially better than the second and even better than the first. But.

First off, it's too fucking long. two full hours and another 10 minutes, i couldn't take it anymore. And, many scenes drag on. Many scenes are just plain bad.
Zendaya really need to disappear from the world's actors pool, and the annoying sidekick / comedic relief fat guy has waaaay too much screentime. The way that the plot moves forward is pretty dumb, and it's way too soppy and cant set a tone.

Aside from that, and the meaningless action scenes, eh, it was pretty good. I mean, for a Marvel movie.

William Defoe and Alfred Molina knock it out of the park, Benedict Cumberbatch is vaguely decent as Dr Strange, Marisa Tomei's Aunt May is a horrible character, and this has nothing to do with the age of the actress. Jamie Foxx still puzzles me as to how he ever became an actor.

idk, 7.5/10 if you like this kind of stuff.

This feels like one of those kung fu scenes where the bad guy gets his head sliced and diced, then they come back like 3 minutes later and it finally slides off. Don't ask me to explain, just take the compliment.

i know you guys hate me for always ripping on these films, but consider;

i have watched Cyrano - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12889404/reference/
which currently sits at 6.3/10 on IMDb. Spooderman has 8.6/10.

Starring the absolutely fantastic Peter Dinklage as Cyrano, in an absolutely perfect casting replacing the classic nose with height, It makes use of theatre, film, and musical- techniques but without being limited by these, as, let's say, the recent MacBeth was (trying desperately to be Theatre), or Les Miserables (trying to be a musical).
Or Cats .. trying to .. be a Film, while using theatre scenes .. while being on camera?!?!?

Putting aside Dinklage's protagonist role, everything else - camera and photography, sets, direction, dialogue, acting - from leads and supporting, music, choreography, casting, everything is "at least as good as it should be to qualify as a properly made film", which is a concept that apparently escapes the mind of modern film-involved-people, from those who make them, to those who review them, and finally all the way down to the bog of eternal stench which are those who watch them.

Comparing this to spoodermon, what vote should i give? 14/10 ?

I try to stick to this one scale which, as i am very smart, uses a quasi-logarithmic system, where each full point is its own microcosm; note the funny way i put the numbers in line.

6 - eh, a film. You went, you watched it, you had some popcorn. Maybe you even had fun but honestly the film itself wasn't really good. No harm done tho.
7 - a good film. You had fun because the film itself was fun, it managed to entertain you throughout and rarely did you drop out of the enchantment.
8 - a really good, strong film. Actors have memorable scenes, there are new or innovative plot devices, parts of the film bleed into popular culture.
9 - a film with a great social impact, that affects the world around you, changes filmmaking, scenes that will be referenced forever.
10 - the greatest masterpieces, art so ephemeral that it has not yet been fully described.

On the bottom rung

5 - not a good film. You tried, but there was just no way to find it enjoyable.
4 - a really really awful film that upsets you for how bad it was, it will make the next week of your life worse.
3 - a profoundly offensive film that requires action on your part - you feel the need to actively fight the propagation of this horror.
2 - a film which permanently makes your life worse
1 - the star wars prequels

So, Cyrano is a good film. It's the plot of the story of Cyrano De Bergerac, by the author named .. uh .. Cyrano De Bergerac ?!
so this guy wrote a story about his imaginary self?

Anyway, good film, don't watch, you won't like it. It's got Acting in it.

The Thing - 1982

Enjoyable low-budget Alien clone, Kurt Russell never get tested pretty sure was by design to get the suspension going. Couple things that budget to no end, why are there so many weapons on a research lab? To find who if anyone got infected all they have to do is ask everyone a simple question like what is your parents name or anything really.

I don't know how anyone can feel even the least bit scared in a movie with such hilariously bad special effects. One of the more overrated films I've seen.

Your problem is that you are comparing the special effects to now instead of the early 80’s. Back then the effects were great!
