You know, it should be possible for someone to start a thread and for people to have a discussion about a topic -- whether or not the NRA is gaining members -- without it being immediately derailed with garbage.

As a voting block 5 million is sizeable. Other organizations are dwarfed by that number.
A) 4.2 million members in a country of 315 million means a core policy of this country is controlled by-at most-1.3% of the voters (that's assuming all NRA members are eligible voters, vote and vote the NRA party line).
B) I wonder how much of the boost of the NRA membership is due to things like their recent campaigns essentially making membership free, like this one:

C) Interesting factual analysis on the Rachel Maddow show a few nights ago. She analyzed the effectiveness of various right wing lobby groups during the 2012 election. The group with the worst record of all was the NRA with less than one percent return on their investment (0.89% IIRC), meaning that the NRA spent its funds on the winning side of a race less than one percent of the time.
I think this country has had a sea change in public opinion about uncontrolled and unfettered distribution of military style weapons. The NRA is about to be left in the dust (assuming the public can force Bohner to allow any bill to come to a vote).
Both of my parents have been dead for over 20 years, I wish i could hang out in their basement just so I could see them again, if only for awhile.

LOL at you, speculating about NRA membership. Excellent tactic though, take a group you vehemently oppose and imply members are conflicted, as if 100% must be lockstep. I belong to to several organizations or associations and do you think I'm on board with 100% of what they say and do? Does anyone? Considering myself and the dozen gun enthusiasts I know are not part of the NRA (and I'm sure many others on P&N have the same experience), it takes a pretty committed person to actually join and I think it's safe to say the NRA crowd is a pretty tight group. Regardless, the actual number of people who support the NRA's general cause is much, much larger than their membership.
If you don't have anything useful to contribute, then just shut up.
Then there should be no need to change anything in regards to weapons authorized now then.
