I never thought he was a detriment to the forums and I think a ban is a bit harsh, but not completely undeserved.

Rollo is probably the least troublesome of the three or so nvidia fanboys here that need to be banned.
Just because they are fanboys they need to be banned?
What is the world coming to?
When people make a thread asking for video card suggestions, some of these people come into the thread and make it seem like AMD cards are trash and virtually unplayable without significant problems in most modern games. Flat out lying like that to someone who is looking for honest answers should be bannable, especially since they do it practically all the time.
Liking one brand over another is perfectly fine, but telling someone that one brand is unusable just to get them to buy another brand is silly.
Got some links to back up your accusations? I think we need more bans for people who make unfounded accusations and can't back them up.
This latest banning is just more proof of what we've seen in the past, undermoderation or overmoderation, completely dependent of course on what brand you prefer.

It's "a better bargain" because:
1. Driver limitations make it less user friendly:
AnandTech warns us about ATi drivers for about the 4th time
In spite of the potential advantages offered by the Radeon 4870 X2, we have qualms about recommending it based on our experiences since October with the introduction of Core i7 and X58 and the multitude of software titles that were released. Driver support just isn't what it needs to be to really get behind an AMD single card dual-GPU solution right now.
2. The 4870X2 doesn't offer the performance of the GTX295:
Comparing NVIDIA to AMD, it's clear that NVIDIA has recaptured the halo product at least in the majority of tests we ran in this snapshot of performance.
3. The 4870X2 has no good stereo 3d options.
4. The 4870X2 offers no hardware accelerated physics.
5. ATi's Open CL solution has been pretty much going nowhere from what I can tell, but CUDA has gained a lot of momentum. For most of us, that means the opportunity for much faster transcoding of video.
The AMD part is priced where it might sell. it's the high end solution for people willing to trade $100 for it's limitations.

With all due respect, neither have I, unless i've just missed it.
I was here long before he was banned the first time. He deserved that one.
Since his return he's been mostly fair with his posts. Even going so far as to recommending ATI from time to time which shocked me.
There are a few fanboys here, of both camps, that are worse.

So based on that strict on-topic criteria, he was responding to a questionable post that was already off-topic given the OP had stated early on they did not want an AMD solution. Personally I don't subscribe to such strict criteria, especially if the facts and statements used in an argument or opinion are questionable to begin with.Originally posted by: cmdrdredd
Post is below... question was if micro stuttering was a problem, multi-gpu was problematic in general, and is $500 worth it for a card. None was answered.

Heh, you should take a look at your posts before you got a GTX 280 and compare them to the ones after. Both your own posts and the reactions to your posts. Amazing how quickly things change depending which side of the fence you're sitting on!Originally posted by: cmdrdredd

You mean you can't tell from their posting? lol

AT either needs to pick one way or the other... Accept focus group members, request they make their affiliation known, and let them post; or they need to ban all such members as they find them. All this wishy washy stuff is confusing to everyone.
Personally, I'd accept an offer from NVIDIA or ATI to get free video hardware in advance to offer them feedback (hint, hint ). However, I'd accept it of AT or any other forum asked me make such an affiliation known or not to post there.

The moderators said that he was allowed back to redeem himself and prove that he was worth having by helping out with Nvidia users questions. He was not to be an Nvidia marketer. But if you read through his posts, take cmdrdreed's example above, he's clearly doing nothing but trying to push Nvidia.
Like I said, I think at times he certainly did add value to these forums, but more often then not he was in marketing mode. Some of his posts reminded me of a used car salesman... he'd say anything to get you into that new green set of wheels. There were plenty of scenarios where an Nvidia card would have been the better option for someone, there were plenty of times with an AMD card would have been the better option, but Rollo was always there to push the Nvidia option. While I wouldn't say he would out-right lie, he certainly did put his spin on things.

As a new poster I immediately spotted his favorism for all things Nvidia and subtle (and not so subtle) downplays for ATI hardware, and it was quite annoying.

Yeah go for an ATI card! :roll:I don't recommend that card, it's price performance ratio isn't good. I'd get a 3850 over the 8600GT.
The 9600GT coming out next week (supposedly) will be your best bet in this price range. As noted, an 8800GT would be better yet.
Text
The 4850 is a better gaming card, but if "quiet" is the primary criteria, this is the best choice: Fanless 8800GT for $109.99
Text
Out of curiosity, could you tell me which of the 16 games in that graph make you think the 4870X2 is worth $100 more than the GTX280?
To me it looks like at 19X12 the performance is remarkably similar and for $100 less, no multi GPU issues, PhysX, CUDA, stereo some might dispute that the X2 is the card to have based on this review.
The X2 wins some, but it loses some as well, but what's interesting to me is the lack of "I need card A or card B" to play any of the games on that chart. Ironically, Lost Planet might be the only one.
Again, i'm no one's apologist or no companies fanboy.....but if you're going to accuse someone of something, you'd better be able to back it up.

I was merely pointing out that he, at times recommended ATI cards which he clearly did in those posts, you just chose to highlight where, in the same posts, he also recommended nVidia.
And don't call me an apologist for pointing out the above accusations were untrue. I'm fed up with the pigeonholing.
