NT4 Password Or Suggestions...

My boss bought a used notebook off the ebay and it's got nt4 with a Omni Windows NT 1.10.06 Logon screen ?

now he only got this with a floppy drive and he order a cd rom for it..

now how the heck can I get into nt so I can install partition magic to put a small partition to put w2k on it so i can nuke the drive and put w2k on it...

I can do a floppy boot but it might take forever to get w2k in to a separate partition to do the install..

anyone successfully bypass a nt password ?

btw it's a thinkpad t20, no removable HD or else I nuke the system and install w2k from my own pc..

If you have no intention of keeping NT, I wouldn't worry about finding or hacking the password.

BTW, if there is a utility that can attempt to crack NT passwords, let me know. I need one for work! Better yet, if you can provide proof that no such tool exists, I'll take that as well!

I would either

1. Wait for the CD-ROM to arrive (you'll likely need it anyway to do the install of whatever OS you're going to run).

2. Try to do a network install. I've never done one and would only point you to the MS KnowledgeBase.

3. Take out the hard drive and put it into another machine/laptop with a CD drive.

SUOrangeman There's a tools cracking NT passwords, but for that mostly you have to have admin priviledges in that machine. Have you tried Advanced NT Security Explorer? You may also want to check out Russian Password Cracker's homepage.

For a NT/W2k and XP PW cracker try this link. It will crack both Admin and User PWs; will do both Local and Network. A real nice tool to have...

image to a floppy with Rawrite

box, and follow the steps for reseting any password.

I used the image once on a "new" laptop my friend got off of ebay or something. Its basically a small linux distribution that will prompt you to change the administrator's password. Its not perfect, but worth a shot.
