I don't think the construction workers are getting screwed. Can you safely say that those construction workers that were on that job, are now out of work? Or do you suppose they are on another job?

Do you have any facts to show, that those people have lost their jobs?

I applaud ANY company for avoiding layoffs. Not just mine. (NOTE: And I'm not even that worried about my particular job. My position is pretty far down the chain in regards to layoffs.)

As for forcasting, the Austin project was negotiated close to two years ago. Could you have predicted this downturn eight months ago, let alone two years ago? If you did, I'd love to pay you to invest for me.

Again, it doesn't have anything to do with how much money Intel has "in the bank" right now. It's not like they couldn't afford to finish the job. It just makes more sense financially, to delay the project.

And exactly how could it benefit Austin, to take over the building from Intel? What would they possibly do with it? Don't you think it'd be wiser just to wait out the delay?

>>As for forcasting, the Austin project was negotiated close to two years ago. <<

Then two years ago,the money should have been placed in escrow and the Austin project should be completed(at least the construction).

You are saying Intel spends money it doesn't have? Makes promises it doesn't keep? All in the name of "saving jobs"?

Rubish. You are smarter than that.If they have "billions" in the bank, finish the project or forfeit the site.

Glad to hear you are insulated from "lay-offs". I would hate to lose you in the forums. You are an asset to the community.

BTW,I would love to work for Intels planning and forcasting organization. But I don't think they can afford me.

I'm not saying that Intel spends money that it doesn't have.

I'm just pointing out that they are making cuts, in many many areas. The Austin building is one of them. As are many employee benefits. But if that means that people get to keep their jobs, then I'm ok with the delays.

I jumped in here to show that Intel should not be singled out. Micron has left a skeleton along I-15 going into Provo for about 5 friggen years. weeds are everywhere. It disgusts me that thes large companies make these promises, and then renig on them at the drop of the hat. I know full well corprate planning and tax right offs. That doesn't do anything for the sour taste in the mouths of those people of the communty who accepted the project in anticipation of better job prospects and the "prestige" of having such a high profile named company in the tax base.

I have no respect for these outfits and there short sightedness. Micron has ticked off alot of Utah people. They can stay in Boise for all I care.Maybe motorola would be interested in this property,or Erricson,or Nortel. Lots of options out there.

It just takes a good salesman to make it happen.

Tripleshot:

Ericsson would not be a good candidate, they have a long record of faulty forecasts...

I have some friends from Sweden who were laid-off together with many others when they shut the production of cellular phones down...

Flawed investments and stupid decisions follows Ericsson, they lay people off and reward the ones who made the mistakes.

I agree with what you say, but their (Intels) decisions have been better ones than many other companies.

I was talking about earnings per share rather than absolute dollar amount.
INTC had couple of stock splits along the way. So here it is :

In 1996 Intel made 76c per share. Share price went from $7 to $17
during that year.

Intel reduced earnings estimates for 2001 : 76-77c per share. Stock is around $28.
Make your own conclusions whether INTC is a buy or a sell.

BTW infinished biuldings is a hallmark of a recession.
We'll see plenty of it fairly soon.

I can understand that Intel does not want to finish a building and leave it empty. From Intel's standpoint, the logic is sound. But then again so is the P4 in Intel's eyes.
