Windows XP looks like it boots up, goes through the Windows XP screen, then right in the middle of that I get a BSOD mentioning something about NTFS.SYS. It just started crashing on me everytime I boot up. I'm using Windows XP Pro. I'm getting sick of this. This is the second time my Windows XP has gotten corrupted. First it started looping and couldn't get into Windows so I had to reinstall Windows on it. Anybody have any ideas on what to do? I don't want to have to reinstall Windows *AGAIN*. It's been working for about two months now. I hate to keep starting over.

I went into the recovery console and ran chkdsk and it said there were errors. How do I run ScanDisk???

I'd try "last known good" first. To run checkdisk you need to be logged into XP. If you can get in in safe mode you should be able to get to it. In explorer, right click the C: drive and select properties, tools, error checking and then click check now. It will warn you that it will be run the next time you reboot. Reboot and it runs before XP loads.

Corruption of the file system isn't just happening for no reason. Your system has a problem with hardware or drivers. Running chkdsk (There is no scandisk in Windows XP.) after corruptions occur is only a reactive procedure. You need to find out what is wrong with your system to keep this from recurring over and over again. If you don't fix the problem then it won't matter how many times you reinstall Windows, you'll keep seeing the same issues.

Is the system fully compliant (motherboard, all devices that are physically present) with Windows XP? Did you see any blue screen errors for device drivers or hardware before the trouble started? Does your controller / hard drive combo require special driver? Are you overclocking? Has this system ever worked consistently and properly under Windows XP? If so, has something been changed since then -- either by way of hardware (or even software) installation or through configuration of the BIOS?
