Edit: Wow, I got completely hosed by markup. I meant to preview first. Doh. Sorry, I'm fixing it now.
Edit2: Auto parsing URL sucks on this thing. Sorry, I'm a newb here.
I did a search and was surprised to not find anything related to it here.
Shortly after being posted on slashdot, it was removed from nullsoft's site and all mentions of it were erased. Luckily, while it was up, enough people managed to grab it. (It has since been mirrored.) It is released under GPL which means that other people can work on it and release new offshoots of it. (As it looks like Nullsoft's parent company AOL/TW does not want them to be working on it!)

http://www.entheal.com/users/dweomer/waste-source-clean.tgz (supposedly compiles under linux)
Sooo, seeing as how I can't find any networks to connect to to test it out, see how it works, etc. I'll start one.

- http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/29/0140241&mode=nested&tid=126&tid=93"Nullsoft, makers of the venerable Winamp MP3 player, released today a secure, distributed mesh-like networking protocal and platform called Waste. This v1.0 beta release uses RSA (key based) and Blowfish encryption for security, and features Instant Messanging and group chat, along with file browsing, searching, and transfer. Waste has been released under the GPL, with source and binaries available here."
- "waste design.doc" from waste-source.zipWhat is WASTE?
WASTE is a tool that is designed to permit secure distributed collaboration and communications for small trusted groups of people. WASTE allows users to communicate and transfer information easily and effortlessly. WASTE requires very little administration, and no central server or central administration is required.
Currently the amount of setup required for each user is significant that WASTE is designed for the more computer-literate users or ?power users?. Having said this, it?s worth noting that the audience of WASTE is not limited to such users, as these users are ?tastemakers? and will help their less experienced friends get set up.
