I did a search and was surprised to not find anything related to it here.

What is WASTE?

WASTE is a tool that is designed to permit secure distributed collaboration and communications for small trusted groups of people. WASTE allows users to communicate and transfer information easily and effortlessly. WASTE requires very little administration, and no central server or central administration is required.

Currently the amount of setup required for each user is significant that WASTE is designed for the more computer-literate users or ?power users?. Having said this, it?s worth noting that the audience of WASTE is not limited to such users, as these users are ?tastemakers? and will help their less experienced friends get set up.

Shortly after being posted on slashdot, it was removed from nullsoft's site and all mentions of it were erased. Luckily, while it was up, enough people managed to grab it. (It has since been mirrored.) It is released under GPL which means that other people can work on it and release new offshoots of it. (As it looks like Nullsoft's parent company AOL/TW does not want them to be working on it!)

It is a pseudo-VPN. Well, not really, but sort of. It is basically a distributed, encrypted medium for chatting and file collaboration (sharing.)

if you're talking about Gnutella .. they did release it for a couple of hours. AOL didn't like the idea, so they pulled it. By then, everyone mirrored it and made different variations and distributed it.

Yeah i hope that Justin leaves AOL, takes his lammas somewhere else, and starts pumping out some kick-ass software that will stay on the net for more that 3 hours.

BTW can waste be used for anything or is it DOA? I can't seem to do anything with it.

Justin Frankel is leaving Nullsoft. Thank god for that. Waste sounds cool. It's GNU I think, but I hope it turns out better than Gnutella.
