OK, it's September now - what are the latest rumers regarding nVidia's G80 chip? If we're going to see this product before the end of the year then some more specific information should be starting to leak out about now. Or, does the lack of information suggest this chip is behind schedule and will not been seen until 2007?

G8x ain't coming out untill late december fools :! Nvidia just wants to make as much as they can with G7X since its cheaper to produce and is still selling like hot pan cakes.

LOL! WTF? I'm sorry but I think that is the biggest bunch of bullsh!t I have ever heard...today! Although it is a rumor, octo SLI is really not likely. That's just my opinion.

Someone needs to purchase a sarcasm detector. I would suggest upgrade your current one, but you haven't given any evidence you even own one. Make sure your detector can pick up all the hints, such as "need more horrible rumours?" which followed directly after "octo sli capable"

Hah! I'll just say all those specs are bullsh1t. Done and done. As for the sarcasm detector, I shot my brain out so I can't think anymore! But still, a lot of the times, Inq is full of it so...meh.

Although many people here have taken this thread as a joke.. with octa SLI and 32mb SD ram

I know for sure that some developers out there have samples of G80. G80 is tightly lipped to the extreme and imformation on it is hard to come by.

Currently this is all the rumours i know of:
-Will be on 90nm instead of 80nm. (not making the same mistake they did with NV30)
-Around ~500million transistors
-Clocked around 450mhz~
-32 "DX10 pipelines" and add in things like multi functional ALU etc. Essentially, G80 could be a 32x2 or 32x3 design.
-16 Vertext Shaders/Geometry Shaders (also a rumour that G80 will implement unfied shaders, except the unified shaders are only for VS/GS)
-256bit (since 512bit is expensive)
-Uses GDDR4
-Most probabaly 512mb
-power hungry, and might eat up between 130~300W of power.
-New AA algorithms, which also indicate a major makeover in the IQ department. We can expect new AF from NV as well. Not to mention HDR + AA will be there.
-New pure video or SLi implementations (as both technologies are around 2 years old, thats all the way back from the NV40s)

Thats about it. Theyve already taped it out, so im assuming they want another 7800GTX vs X850XTPE situtation since the R600 wont be here til later this year or even next year (since they are just about to release X1950XTX and R570/560). G80 wont hurt sales, because NV either release the card at 699 plus and that the card will effectively be alot faster compared to current gen cards.

I wouldnt mind NV using the old "ultra" tag. 8800 ultra.. sounds like one badass card.

R600 is already taped out so just because the G80 is doesn't mean it will be showing up soon. Not only that but Nvidia is also releasing new cards. Your same argument about why the r600 won't be here until next year could be made about the g80 based off of the evidence you gave.

My real question isn't what are the rumors on G80, but why don't we have many? Both ATI and Nvidia aren't really saying much about their DX10 parts.

the 32/16 pipeline rumour seems pretty consistant.

as does the .90u process.

if the Ultra runs at 450MHz then what i really want is a GT version running at 400/1600 core/memory.

with a smaller size and reduced power/heat so i can put one in a Silverstone LC16-M htpc case.

Octo SLi. That's funny. What's even funnier is the thought that anyone would have the room on a motherboard to fit 8 graphics cards, even if two are 2 GPU per card, let alone anyone have the hard cash to even buy such a fantasy system.

Have a source for this rumor? Most of the other ones I've heard about to one degree or another but new AF and HDR+AA is a new one. I know a lot of peope are HOPING that G80 will have these features but I wasn't aware of any solid rumors saying it would.

Wasn't there an octo-SLI workstation or something recently? I believe the graphics cards were held externally or something.

One thing is absolutely certain: G80 will not have unified shaders unless the Vista delay has given NVDA time to add them.

Another fact: R600 will b!tch slap G80 up one side and down the other.
