OK, it's September now - what are the latest rumers regarding nVidia's G80 chip? If we're going to see this product before the end of the year then some more specific information should be starting to leak out about now. Or, does the lack of information suggest this chip is behind schedule and will not been seen until 2007?
Although many people here have taken this thread as a joke.. with octa SLI and 32mb SD ram
I know for sure that some developers out there have samples of G80. G80 is tightly lipped to the extreme and imformation on it is hard to come by.
Currently this is all the rumours i know of:
-Will be on 90nm instead of 80nm. (not making the same mistake they did with NV30)
-Around ~500million transistors
-Clocked around 450mhz~
-32 "DX10 pipelines" and add in things like multi functional ALU etc. Essentially, G80 could be a 32x2 or 32x3 design.
-16 Vertext Shaders/Geometry Shaders (also a rumour that G80 will implement unfied shaders, except the unified shaders are only for VS/GS)
-256bit (since 512bit is expensive)
-Uses GDDR4
-Most probabaly 512mb
-power hungry, and might eat up between 130~300W of power.
-New AA algorithms, which also indicate a major makeover in the IQ department. We can expect new AF from NV as well. Not to mention HDR + AA will be there.
-New pure video or SLi implementations (as both technologies are around 2 years old, thats all the way back from the NV40s)
Thats about it. Theyve already taped it out, so im assuming they want another 7800GTX vs X850XTPE situtation since the R600 wont be here til later this year or even next year (since they are just about to release X1950XTX and R570/560). G80 wont hurt sales, because NV either release the card at 699 plus and that the card will effectively be alot faster compared to current gen cards.
I wouldnt mind NV using the old "ultra" tag. 8800 ultra.. sounds like one badass card.
