I can not see how a company can abandon a line without some grief? Same with the x700 series that ATI seems to be abandoning. Too noisy and too slow it seems. Is an unforgiving business.

The X700 Pro's seem to be showing up a lot in stores now. The X700XT looks like a paper launch, to make the X700 series look more competitive with the 6600GT than it really is.

When they first met ATI was but the pupil and Nvidia was the master. ATI is the master now!

Wow, the posts have become WAY off-topic :Q, am gonna join, though Put me in Team ATI since the only REAL card that I had was from ATI, it's my current SE-->Pro and I love it, the previous one was a POS MX440, plus, we don't wanna leave Gururu alone!
Going on-topic, I think nVidia did the right move, since the refresh wouldn't offer any noticable performance increase, and they already have SLI.
The only card that looks attractive to me from ATI's launch is the X800XL, maybe the X800 Vanilla's good too, but the X850 series was pointless, unless it solves some avalabitliy issues.
As for ATI abandoning the X700 cards, look at the top of this page and you'll see an X700 banner

Only a master of evil, jiffy!!!

Lol either way, I think both companies have an ok direction right now...nV says they don't need a 2% increase and ATi puts out some actual XT PE level cards in volume, albeit PCI-E only. Pretty much win-win for everyone, although people keep saying this will drive the price down on current AGP x800 series cards...which makes no sense, being that the reason current prices are still up is low supply/high demand. Increasing the supply of low-demand PCI-E cards won't do much for AGP prices; go to NewEgg and look up 6600GT's...the PCI-E ones cost 208 bucks max while the only AGP one costs 240, 56 dollars more than it's identical PCI-E twin (XFX). Besides, the main draw that would make someone go PCI-E right now is SLi upgradability (performance gain sure isn't a factor) and ATi hasn't got their SLi equivalent out yet.

good, no sense selling a card 3% faster ***cough, cough***.

There is when its PCI-E only. And its actually widely available unlike the AGP XT/PE.

Also, who wouldnt want a XL? $350 for a 16 pipe card that at the present card speeds, is faster than the $400 12 pipe X850 Pro? Seems like a steal to me.

Besides the best bang for the buck is still 6800GT ($380) even with all the new ATI cards (at least on AGP platform).

False, the best bang for the buck is a card prices MUCH lower than $380.

Then I'll phrase it this way. The card with the most or enough bang for my buck is a 6800GT.

LOL "Rollo Team Captain nVidia"
Glad I didn't click the "buy" button on the X800 XT I was salivating over the other night, my position would be in jeapardy.

lol I got put on the neutral team despite the fact that my last 4 cards (i.e. all I've owned) were nV products...but I guess that I don't really go on the nV team because I just happen to buy cards when nV has the better card (GF2, Ti4200, 6800GT), not because I particularly love them.

You can place me into ATI's boat... I currently have a 6800GT for performance but I still cheer for the big red. I also still run a 9600 pro and a 8500 and am in the market for an AIW card, so I think that puts me in their camp

heh.. well, i have lets see...

x800p
6800gt
9800aiw
9800p
9700p

so 4 ati products (5 if you incl. my laptop), and 1 nv product and i'm on "team nv"

but that's ok as the pc i use from "main" rig has the 6800gt in it.

not in a pc at this time:

gf4
gf3
gf2
radeon 32 DDR

cards i've sold in the last year:

fx5900
radeon 8500
radeon 9600p

damn.. i've spent far too much money on video cards.....

I was pretty sure you got it, jim (tho your egging on MW was almost beyond even my irony detector). I was referring to MW.

Still, teams are fun. Round robin dodgeball tournament, anyone?
