http://www.3dchipset.com/news.shtml#newsitem1026190468,5309,

I've received some information regarding the NV30, NV31 and some insight of the NV40 Nvidia is working on. First off though, the NV30 is AGP 8X and it's still a go with 900MHz DDR memory. Also what is now known is that the NV30 is multi chip capable. The number of chips is an odd number. That's all I can say without giving out the exact number. I'll say this though. It's under 8. With regards to FSAA performance the NV30 has a zero (0) performance cost using 4X FSAA. Specifications have been discussed and the NV30 is able to churn out 16 textures/pixel per pass. The NV30 also uses a 4-1 colour compression technique. Nvidia has explained to us/me that the performance we all will see with the NV30 is about double the performance of the Xbox/GF Ti4600. Another feature that is not known to the public is the use of IEE 1394 or known as Firewire will be on NV30 video cards. What this feature is for wasn't discussed thoroughly and all we know is that it has to do with the hardware mpeg2 acceleration built into the chip.

Drool...

Let's hope they live up to their word -- I hope this isn't just a few handful of tests they're talking about.

Every one of these features sounds oddly like the Rampage described in another thread here. Very promising looking if NVidia can incorporate 3dfx's IQ as well.

multi-chip capable, does that work like the 3dfx voodoo2 in SLI mode? someone explain that

Nvidia chip bombing? Thats about as proposterous as putting an ACLU link in youre sig...

I don't think you *need* a agp 8x port.

if we do...well, I'm in the same boat as you (TBird 1.2Ghz w/ geforce2 ultra on epox 8k7a). i don't want to buy a new mobo to have a new graphics card!

My Epox mobo was one of the best I've ever owned

I read that the next gen of nvidia videocard could be delayed into 2003, PCMAG.com news to be exact. Some stock analysts put nvidia's stock to "hold" instead of "buy", if you believe stock analysts

That's great and all. I just wish they can come up with a solution that doesn't blur the textures and text so much. Right now I prefer using higher resolutions without AA. I can't stand the blurring effect of NVIDIA's AA.

I have seen benchmarks comparing agp 1x vs 2x vs 4x on the latest games

The difference between 2x and 4x is almost negligible

It might be time to upgrade my tnt2 to a Geforce series card or an Ati r300. Most of the games still run fine at 800x, but I'm starting to notice that the tnt2 is getting old. I wonder how much performance I will gain compared to my tnt2? 20x? lol!

Hmmm, on taking a closer look at that it appears that I might have severely underestimated the texel fillrate.

That's 16 texels per [/b]pixel pipeline[/b] - four times higher than the Parhelia. Initially when I saw that I though it was 16 texels per clock, not per pipeline.

Of course it depends on how many rendering pipes it'll actually have but at this stage I'd say it would be at least 4, maybe more.

Good lord, that's powerful. :Q

what did the Ti 4600 debut at? 300 bucks right? Any guesses as to what kind of price range we're talking about for the NV30? I hope to god it isn't 400+ like that parhelia nonsense :|

Wow. Lot's of heavy-duty processing power here. Hopefully they fix the "infinite loop" problem that still seems to be happening with the GF4 cards, especially when used w/a Via chipset board.

4600 is still above 300 at most places and debuted at at least $400 possibly higher

if you are thinking $300 at launch i'd say up that by $200 at least

I am sure R&D for this costed a lot more than previous projects and hey I dont blame them

This is making me consider buying one for $500 from day one

they also had to pay for their acquisition of 3dFX somehow

NVIDIA is gonna milk this card for all its worth 128 and maybe 256 MB 900 mhz DDR?
the 4600 is just hitting that level now and it a while ago

i am just hoping for a sub $250 Ti200 version with all of the same features and slower memory

is 4xFSAA w/out a performance hit even possible ?

maybe they used some sort of edge AA algorithm

but i really hope they dont resort to a Quincux method the blurring hurts my eyes and I dont really care for QC + AF

i always use true 4x AA + AF if i can

I will pick one up day one if it can deliver quality of a 4xFSAA multisampled image w/out a performance hit
