Hahaha, true.

and me with my lowly single GTX 770... even with a 3770k @ 4.8 ghz, still can't maintain solid 60 FPS in Crysis 1 @ DX-10 1080p.

Got word a friend of mine is supposed to gift me (free) his pair of GTX 970's when he upgrades to 1080's at least so.. :>

Your friend sounds like a saint! Keep him close (sounds like he got money too ).

That's pretty much 2x 980TI at 2.5Ghz

It's way more than 2 x 980 Ti considering SLI scaling varies throughout gameplay, whereas single card performance has a very small Delta. In practice just the at 2.1GHz it should feel as smooth or smoother than 980 Ti SLI.

2.5 GHz 1080 would be insane. Big Pascal (GP100) would have to hit 1.66GHz just to match it. I'm gonna guess Titan 2 will have to launch with a 300W+ TDP and be able to overclock to least 2GHz to be an appealing upgrade over GTX 1080.

Custom Geforce GTX 1070 by MSI:

Latest rumour by Chiphell says it's only 15-20% slower than a Geforce GTX 1080.

Apparently custom Geforce GTX 1080 has no problem hitting an insane 2.5 GHz @ water:

Almost 50% faster than stock clock scores (by VideoCardz):

That chart is 20% faster than Titan x stock.

I'm probably going 2-Way SLI with the 1080 this time. I hope NVidia has the new bridges available at release.

That reaction GIF does not reassure me!!!

But sweet on custom cards second week in Japan, make that same here!!!

I can't wait "months"!

You'll probably still be waiting months for availability. Lel.
I've resigned myself to a purchase-date of late august/early september. As a (potential) added bonus, the early-adopters tax may have been diminished by then.

Lot of changes from Maxwell to Pascal...
Every single block has seen an update (I particularly like the 2x4K @60Hz HEVC encode and new Fast Sync mode)
Nobody will say again that Pascal is just Maxwell on FF16+
Well done Nvidia !

I love how they comparing GTX 1080 vs 980.
GTX 980 cost 550USD
GTX1080 cost 700USD
They should compare it to GTX980TI.

Nice to see more gains in the memory compression tech.

That basically means that 1080 has more effective bandwidth than the 980 Ti, there's about a 5% difference in favor of the Ti but 10-20% more compression would give 1080 the edge.

You can't compare today's prices vs new launch prices. When the GTX 980 first launched brand new last year, it originally retailed at $649. The $700 card is nvidia's reference design that is being sold first. There will be $599 GTX 1080 cards a few weeks to a month later. That's -$50 less than 980 when comparing launch-day pricing.

Nope GTX980 launch price was 549USD
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980/
GTX980TI launch at 650USD
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980_Ti/

Its still more expensive than GTX980TI and +150USD vs original GTX980.

I was reading incorrectly on wikipedia on the wrong list and indeed the GTX 980 came out at $549 originally.

Sorry on that.. It's morning and I haven't had my tea yet.

Although it's already been stated by nvidia themselves that there will be a $599 version later.. it's just +$50 more, it's not that big of a deal.

Hello.

Since Pascal will be faster in VR, will it also be faster in current 3D stereoscopic gaming too?

I am particularly interested if the new tech will be faster by using Tridef.

Anyone can shed some light?

Sorry, you're just going to have to wait like everyone else. All we have right now are marketing slides by nvidia advertising department. Supposedly some magical NDA will be lifted on the 17'th and allow everyone on the internet to post reviews on it. But even that's not confirmed anywhere and may happen weeks later.

Oh ok. No problem.

Just thought to ask in case anyone had any more in depth understanding of how these things work, than I do.

I mean all I know is that for stereoscopic 3D and VR (VR is still also stereoscopic 3D essentially, right?) you need to render each frame twice, in different angles hence giving that 3D feel, right?

That's why the rendering requirements go up 100% when in stereoscopic 3D. And to add insult to injury, if your card has the power to render your game at less than 60fps, your game will instantly be rendered at 30fps, since vsync is enforced in stereoscopic 3D, for good reason too.

Now if Nvidia has found a secret sauce to accelerate the rendering of left and right eye frames, that would be awesome. But I guess we'll see.

thanks

I seemed to remember a friend of mine with a pair of GTX 980's was recently telling me something about the way nvidia does VR is it allows people to use dedicated video cards for each "Eye". -NOT- SLI, but actually renders each eye's output on each card.. using two for VR.

I don't know how this works but he seemed to like it so much he bought two 980's for it. Maybe pascal / 1080 can do that all in one card now.

nVidia keeps tooting their horn about how the 1080 is supposed to be great for VR and all that so..
