I am using my friends computer until I get this straightened out... This really sucks
I seem to see this argument a lot, about how we "shouldn't care about our 3DMark scores", because we "don't play 3DMark". I will agree with you that the acid test is how well our system performs in the games we play, but benchmarks EXIST so we have some way of judging how well our setups relate to others, and also it is a common way to measure performance (hence, "benchmark"). It is a way of giving us real numbers so we can compare our setup to someone else's. Obviously in the end all that matters is how our games perform, but at least 3DMark gives us something share with the group. It's an easy way to give objective performance results for varying systems.
Well, aside from 3DMark 2001SE the 40.41 drivers performed on par with, or slightly below, the 28.32 drivers. But for many people a higher 3DMark score is good enough, and a 11% gain is definitely impressive. Overall the new Detonator 40 drivers appear to be a winner if you're looking to push your 3DMark scores to new heights. The new interface and added features are also a plus. These drivers will work for all of Nvidia's supported GPU's if you're running Windows 2000/XP and I think they are certainly worth the upgrade. I have heard reports of image quality being affected but I haven't noticed anything as of yet.
They are being really nice to Nvidia IMO. Draw your own conclusions

I never believe the hype in performance with new drivers,as long as they work & I `ve no stability problems I`m happy,as for 3DMark2001 SE well I`ve only used that twice this year, gaming wise they seem ok & now that I`ve a working NVrefresh fix they will do for now .Image quality wise I`m still testing my games so no verdict on that yet,I do like the new Nvidia display panel.

RefreshLock 2.02 ,just click download in the top left corner,it`s the only one that works for me with the 40.41 drivers.
Do you think the "frills" make up for a lack of performance compared with the older drivers?
