Well, I was just naming a few examples. Of course not everybody plays those games. The point I was trying to raise was that the most important speed increase is in the one application/game that you play. I'm guess you derive more satisfaction from playing the games that you play, than watching 3DMark run 3 times to get an average. Anyway, I'm not familiar with those 2 games, but my impression is that they aren't very 3D intensive(at least not NWN)? If that's the case then any detonator driver should provide similar levels of performance...

AF filtering even up to 8x seem to be improved a lot so far in quake 3 arena i tested in at 1024x768 with full details on. Only a 10 to 15 fp loss.

I just installed the 40's and as a dual monitor user it has been a frustrating experience so far. It decided to change which monitor was physically #1 and #2 ...without me changing where I plug them in on the card. *edit* Ultramon support was swift, got my taskbar moved easily...just had to unlock it ) *end edit* Mind you this is also my first driver change since going dual, so take it with a grain of salt.

3dmark score went up from 10100 to 10770. (GF4 Ti4400 on an AthlonXP1900+ w/ 512mb DDR) ...but I don't care about benchmarks much. So no, I too did not hear about this and instantly think 'w00t, radeon9700 killer!'

My Quake3 timedemo scores actually went down by 20-30fps from 165-177 to a solid 145 in 1280x1024 highest settings, which I care about more. (trickjumping ) I'm curious if it helps JKII and SoF2, though.

Also I noticed a few small glitches, like in Dragothic someone mentioned but also a quick one in nature and Q3 as well. It also moved some of my windows (although this may be due to my use of ultramon) above my monitor so I had to switch to 1920x1440 to pull a window back down into reach. Another dual monitor thing...during 3dmark's res changes on my primary, my secondary flickered to black for a second almost every time, minor annoyance but noting for dual monitor users as it will get old.

The one plus is that I noticed WinXP Pro boot up a lot faster than on the 29.42's (which is what I was using previous to these and seemed oddly slow at bootup) ... a guildmate of mine also noticed this.

Those are my thoughts, I'm reverting to the 29.42's or maybe I'll try the 30's. It's a shame, since the new control panel is slick and nView 2.0 is great for dual monitor users. I'll wait until the next release.

Anyone got a fix for the 60hz problem in 2k/XP? Just checking before I install at home.

I finally broke the 3DMark2K1 10K mark (10416) on an Athlon XP 1800+, 640MB DDR RAM, MSI GF4 TI-4400. Not bad, but the performance boost probably won't be noticed with the games I play... UT.

My sentiments are much the same as Goi... 3DMark is fine, if you see a big increase in it wonderful. But in my experience it doesnt tend to stack well with real world gaming performance, and even as a synthetic test it's beginning to show it's age.

Anyone with any performance/quality tests in modern games?

Also, has anyone noticed if the very poor 2D dib blitting issues have been fixed?
Anyone have any issues with the ever problematic nv4_disp infinite loop bug yet?

I'll be downloading them later, as nVidia's site seems slow as hell right now. I doubt I'll see much if any performance increase on my board however- GF2 Ti.

Even if this only translates into small gains of 5% or so in real world applications it'll still be a pleasant surprise.

I hope this hasnt come at the cost of image quality though- the visual issues with Dragothic and the apparently 'washed out' look I've heard reported sounds mildly bothersome.

It seems that you people buy your vid-cards just to run 3DMark... How about benchmarking using REAL apps???

I have heard that there are instability-problems with the NVIDIA control-panel. Can anyone confirm that?

Uh, no. The must have learned something from ATI's debacle. However, they are doing their best to keep up with ATI.
It would be very bad for Nvidia's reputation. These are just BETA drivers . . .

. . . or something like that.

Not necessarily. Remember how GF's 3DMarks mysteriously dropped by several hundred points when splash-screen between tests were disabled? Hmmmmm...

Only problems I`ve heard and speaking from experience is if you don`t remove your old drivers first you can get DDL error problems with the Nvidia control panel, btw I tried running 3DMark2001 SE and it crashes near the end of the benchmark, just as well I don`t take 3DMark2001 SE serious, but it`s the first time it has ever started to crash at the end of 3DMark2001 SE ,anyway all my games work fine like DoD,Q3 etc. .

Update: I reinstalled the 3DMark2001 SE patch and that fixed my crashing problem, weird .

It will be interesting to see how this affects my setup. I was pleased with the release of the 29.90's, as they fixed that problem with the power management on my monitor not working properly, as well as Q3 engine games freezing upon exit. I run a triple monitor setup with a GeForce3 Ti200 and two Matrox's, so if monitor management is improved, that will be a plus for me. It seems to be that most other Ti200 owners are showing a performance increase as well. The games I am primarily concerned with at UT2k3, GTA3, and the upcoming Doom 3.

Benchmarks below were run on a 1.6A@2.26ghz P4 and a PNY GeForce4 Ti 4400 @ 310/610

Serious Sam 2 - The Grand Cathedral Demo (1280x1024@32bpp, custom high quality settings, no AA no AF)
30.82 - 52.1
40.41 - 52.3

3DMark 2001SE (default settings)
30.82 - 10826
40.41 - 11913

Like others, the biggest gain I saw was in the Nature test (saw a high of 106fps on the screen!!). Doesn't seem like OpenGL performance was affected. Anyone have a working 60hz fix for these drivers? Rivatuner and NV Refresh Tool both don't work
