apoppin I appreciate all this constructive work, but we're always going to have jackasses in

this forum. But it's up to the moderators to do their homework.

k guys ...

this is back up with the last quarter or so removed as it was really more PFI kind of stuff ...

I'm sorry I had to delete some of it because some of it was very interesting but mingled with stuff that should really stick to PFI or overstepped a boundary ...

I'm also reviving this and at the same time asking apoppin to remove the poll question about restricting what affiliates of a company can post about. This is the topic that belongs in forum issue really -- and we are not currently considering requiring restricted posting habits for anyone. As this is not an option for our forums it's not something we're going to discuss in a thread centered around how to make video a better place.

I think there is a lot of good discussion in here, and I'd like to see it continue, but lets stick to things that are really options ...

I'm new here, so I'm not qualified to make grand statements about the state of the forum, but I'd be happy to see vid cards and monitors split into separate forums. Why? Basic S/N ratio. From the post count it's obvious that Nvidia and ATI are breaking the technological barrier with faster, better products every hour or two. Whereas the monitor manufacturers create a breakthrough product every century or so. It would be a real time saver, since I could check in once every decade to see if OLED/SED panels are still the monitors of the future. Thanks for considering my selfish needs and good luck with the food fight.

Up again for the weekend shift ... it has been unlocked and approved for continued discussion

I avoid posting and often even reading this forum because of all the childish none-sense that still goes on ... my opinion is that more moderation coupled with strict but evenhanded rule-enforcement would make this a much more useful place.

I answered the poll questions but agree that there should be a "highly technical video" forum where zero FUD is allowed. Then you have the playpen for everything else that is more rampant.

This apoppin guy is a real class act, I'd trust him to hold a lot of authority around here. I get the feeling the OP is the best choice for any sort of upper level management in these forums, I think he'd be fair with me and anyone else.

if you DO design a new gpu in ht, please consider the following:

1. we want a larger bus than 256 bit. 384-512 is probably the sweet spot.
2. we want something that SIGNIFICANTLY clobbers 8800gtx with a single core. no dual gpu solutions that have inconsistent fps and/or significant random slowdowns or driver issues. just mano a mano, 70-100% improvement over 8800gtx at high res with aa.
3. no sneaky drivers that could be used with other high end cards but are disabled for purposes of making this card perform better.

if it has all of these features then we'll give you high fives and such and maybe even a  if you're lucky

First of ALL, since it IS "Highly Technical" [ya know with Ruby the mod and esoteric stuff being discussed and all], i fully expect the GPU we ultimately would design would not be silicon-based but i expect would also be at least partially organic/partially crystalline and certainly capable of upgrading itself as necessary
--Highly technical .. unlike what i proposed here in Video that would just be terran-based "technical" .. mid-level stuff ...

as to those other kind thoughts expressed toward me .. thanks
... but .. forget it[!] ... we have a precedent already from last year.
