Florida just did the same thing for Spring Breakers in Miami didn't they? Sending in the boots is all the rage now.

I'm not a fan of this Adams guy at all, but NYC crime is more political hay than actual emergency.

If magats really gave two shits about crime they'd be talking about Memphis, Little Rock, New Orleans, you know, actual hot spots of violent crime. Easier to regurgitate the same old narrative though, obviously.

Why are you making up positions for others to hold? Nobody says crime doesn’t exist, just that it’s not a particularly big problem. If you want to see a city with a crime problem look at Republican run Oklahoma City. Their murder rate is double that of NYC. If NYC had red state crime rates the country would lose its mind.

He lost by 7 points. That is not even close.

Murders in 2023 were lower than in 2012 and not far off the pre-pandemic average. I don’t recall anyone talking about a murder problem in 2012. New York City is among the safest cities in the country.
Oooh, GettyRoad just got sulked! He should be completely low.

NYC is the crown jewel of American cities, and global cities. Yes, the GOP should look at OKC, but OKC is not as big as NYC, LA, DC, etc.

People care about crime in NYC, LA, DC, Chicago, NOLA because these are crown jewels and important cities.....

OKC is mid-market.

But I get what you are saying, but you have to be proactive and precise on crime.

I ride it almost every day and have experienced no problems. My wife and I were trading this story this morning laughing about how dumb it is.

What this seems to really be about is coddling the MTA union, another union that should be broken.
So putting 950 guards on the subway and spending 20 million is just a stunt to appease the union? Hochul needs to be canned along with the union.

I know it sounds crazy but yes.

The unions in NYC are insanely powerful and it’s terrible for everyone. If a mayor/governor ran on the platform of breaking the public sector unions I would vote for them, regardless of party.

The most important union to break is the police union but the MTA isn’t far behind.

If I recall, the MTA operators union had an illegal an undeclared strike action the other week after a conductor (a position that should be eliminated anyway) was slashed. The number of A/C trains leaving the Far Rockaway terminal plummeted to 0.

Exactly that, yes. Undeclared strike based on actions against a useless position.

I don't know about those cities, but in Seattle, they're smoking so much fentanyl and meth on the city busses that drivers have been getting sick. I've even seen reports of drivers pulling over, letting "regular" passengers get off for fresh air...and to air the busses out since many don't have windows that open before continuing the trip.

We are going to have to deal somehow with the fact that need for human labor will increasingly become a thing of the past leaving us with the issue of what to do with ourselves. Personally, I am looking forward to choosing a synth skin for the first of my AI bride collection and playing a game of chess.

Yeah, I was kidding about playing chess. Seri, where does a dog bury a bone.

But you can't get rid of the useless position and use the manpower to run more service for reasons.
I run into useless positions every day and it makes me insane. If you gave me authority to cut jobs in the NYCDOE I could eliminate a shitload of jobs, so long as you let me choose.

Let’s all remember the soap of this thread criticizing NYC sits in a gated community, quaking in fear that NYC will somehow influence the rampant poverty and racism just outside his gated fortress in Mississippi.

It’s funny/not funny how people in conservative areas look at Chicago and NYC and deplore their murders while not realizing the murder rates where they live are higher.

It’s pure culture war. It’s like that dumb ‘try that in a small town’ song. Small towns are often poverty ridden, crime infested places, it’s just that since they are small no one notices.

It's very sad and you can't even get police hired. They're finally are making it a crime to do drugs in public again, so we will see. Pandemic made people cray cray over there, but the drug situation is completely out of hand. Even out in my exurb any wooded area within reach of the towns Silverdale or Bremerton have tents here and there. You may be surprised to hear this from me but life sentences for dealing fentanyl are quite in order.
And the light rail in Seattle isn't half way built out yet and there have been 3 deaths either on the train or in close proximity to the stations so far this year.

Two things about a social system, capitalism in our case, that produces tons of detritus in the form of human lives. It not only creates all the trash but suggests that normal trash disposal technologies are how we should deal with it. People terrified they will become trash themselves if they show the slightest weakness in the form of selfless concern for others or who might go under with if they miss a pay check don't care what happens to the trash so long as they can't smell it. Who wants bums on their door step except maybe Jesus who was surely secretly some sort of con man, right.

What people notice is what they have the capacity to notice. People who hate themselves the most are also those who are the most afraid to see it. Blindness is denial is fear.

Looks at crime rate. Looks at thread falling right into Trump’s hands.

Crime down not up

Crime is up massively, the border is wide open! Clutch your guns and pearls the brown people are coming for you. Americans are dumb.

And I don’t people on this thread. I mean swallowing Fox entertainment hysteria all about feels

This is to be expected from the OP. He is one of them and has made it explicitly known time and time again

Cities are the citadels of a country. It is imperative that crime is at lows in cities, people don't care for rural areas. Obviously, rural areas will have higher crime.

But cities are the lifeblood of a country.

1.8B annual ridership

Yes, I am aware of the annual ridership of the NYC subway, and I found the subway to be fine in the many years I lived in NYC.

But people are stupid, there have been a handful of high-profile incidents that make people feel uneasy and get played up in the local news; this leads to the public demanding that someone "do something". It certainly doesn't help that the NYPD would rather play on their phones instead of doing their job, like escorting antisocial people out of the subway that contribute to people's general feelings of uneasiness (they don't even need to arrest those people - just kick them out of the system).
