I don’t think he understands that he’s now in the “feels” camp and no longer a member of the “reals” camp. I get it, traumatic life experiences are very hard to put aside for broader big picture realities. He doesn’t feel safe, therefore no one feels safe, he was attacked therefore many others must have been attacked too.

There is a reason Fox and right wing media hammer stories that focus on emotional responses instead of pushing empirical information, it’s easier to create a narrative and it’s almost impossible to counter it with actual facts. Once you can manipulate people some of the time you can manipulate them all of the time.

Indus won’t be changing his tune anytime soon, his emotional experience is too strong to overcome.

Fox maybe the most full of shit fake news ever but the bigger question is how people just ignore other stuff and believe the fox stuff. It has to do with a sense of being wronged on a personal level and not being helped.

What we miss in our extremely fact based arguments is people on our side have been wronged too and not been helped or helped enough.

We can't just dismiss them or we run the risk of creating even more Trump voters.

You tell me how you expect government to address people’s feels that counter what actual data shows. I’d call that pandering but maybe that’s what you want, a party that talks about your feels and tells you how valid they are but then doesn’t actually do anything about it because the data says nothing needs to be done. Oh now I understand Republican mentality!

I will settle for single payer universal healthcare so people feel cared not ignored.

But yep you hit the nail on the head with the republican mentality thing. And their feels are if I had to do this myself then.. basically a FYGM

I will admit what I've been hiding. I'm getting assaulted every other time I am in the city. So do all my bike riding friends, every girl who I've gone on a date with, and their friends too, and talking to any bartender or waiter, same story., It's a non-stop assault zone. All of us that enjoy NYC we are all really masochists, and NYC is our dungeon of pain.

Ed Sheeran used to ride the subway all night too.

I saw David Lee Roth walking around years ago. And a couple other celebrities. Hugh Jackman is often seen on citibikes too, and others. Subways as well as you said.

Celebrities like NYC because they get left alone here for the most part. It's kind of a New Yorker code, don't make a fuss about celebrities. Plus that is one of the most amazing things about living in such a diverse city of over 8 million people - the anonymity. In general, nobody gives a shit what you do or who you are or what you look like as long as you aren't hurting anyone else. A lot of people who move here from smaller towns, that is very freeing, where anything can turn into gossip in those areas. You feel like you have to conform.

Funnily enough I've read multiple posts from introverts who love living in New York City and found it very freeing. Because literally nobody cares what you're doing. For an introvert that anonymity is comforting

Yeah Flori-DUH definitely has more crazies than here.

Some FL woman stole a car from the dealer after a test drive and then when the cops caught up with her, jumped into a lake.

How crazy do you have to be to jump into a Florida lake?

I once heard this described as NYC is a fantastic place to be on your own but still be surrounded by people.

Even New Yorkers have nostalgia of the New York in the 90's!

It was just a great time to experience living in the city back then! Still had a very healthy goth/ punk/ rave scene. Rent was like $600-800 in the outer boroughs. $1.25 subway tokens. $1 slice of silician!

You could find rare vinyl, cd's and tapes near St. Marks Place and on Bleeker Street music stores. And then gentrification and monetization changed everything.

We lost a lot of cool venues and stores due to that.

Might wanna run some of that though an inflation calc lol.

Anyway NYC could be cheaper and even more vibrant with the right policies.

Also he complains a lot about not feeling safe in NYC. There were over 2,200 murders in NYC in 1990 as compared to like 380 in 2023. How do the 90s sound now?

This is like when my dad tells me that crime in Chicago is worse now than it was in the 90s and I ask if he has dementia already. Way too much Fox News watching.

Don't be trumpspy.

Late 90's it was down to about 900 or so.

I think it's not just fox though. It's even liberal media and social media amplifying everything. You get to see a lot more ugliness up close and personal.. all in your tik tok, twitter, instagram feed right after another, all caught in high-def, computer-enhanced, color corrected. You can practically taste the brain matter.

Do you expect people to act normal after watching that?

It's now the first 5 minutes of every broadcast from our local station King 5 which used to be reliably liberal. Mostly teenagers running absolutely rampant using stolen Hyundai's and Kia's to commit their crimes.

I should be doing a long ride in the city on Sunday. I have a new DJI Action Cam 4 and I'm planning to record the ride to show all the anarchy and mayhem. I have a handlebar mount and a chest mount, still trying to figure out a helmet mount solution or if I want to go that route.

When I was younger, the only thing I knew about NYC I learned from the Gargoyles TV show. I had a long-running notion that central park was full of gunmen with automatic weapons, like some kind of modern bandit forest.

Actual central park is a lot less exciting but had a much more interesting palette.

Gargoyles ruled.

Most media to this day seems to show NYC as either a place of unimaginable sophistication and wealth or some sort of crime ridden hell hole.

Oddly enough people seem comfortable holding both of those opinions simultaneously

Where will you put the automatic weaponry you'll need to fend off the hordes of refugee gang members?
