I've been wearing the real deals for many years now. E-wires for general, just kickin' it, and M-frames for cycling. I race mountain bikes, road bikes, and cyclocross. I've done 24-hour races, raced in the rain, snow, mud, etc. And there is absolutely no comparison between real Oakleys and fakes. I've broken the M-frames more than a couple of times, but no big deal. Oakley simply replaces the frames. (now I've gone through a few lenses, but crashing can do that Just get a replacement set and I'm good to go.)
I've paid full price when necessary, but more often than not, I get them cheaper through sponsors. I've had other glasses GIVEN to me through the team, Briko, Bolle, Smith, Rudy Project... As in FREE, GRATIS, $00.00... They ALL ended up in my parts bin. Sure, I wore them in the races for the sponsors, but as soon as I was out of sight, the Oakleys went back on.
So, do what you want. Buy the fakies if that's your decision. But Mats122 makes a great point: If you're going to dis Oakley and say they're not worth the expense, then why do you so desperately want to get a cheap pair of knock-offs? Go to the Quickie-Mart and get some cheap Ray-Bans. Maybe you're paying more for the Oakleys because they've got a kick-ass design team. As well as being damned righteous glasses. But, it's your choice. Be a poser if that's what you want to be. But you'll have sh!tty lenses, cheap-ass frames, and ANYBODY that has worn the real thing can tell the difference.
