Okay. That's fucked up. I don't care who the fuck you are.

He/she is probably a supporter of Obama acting out the stereotype of anyone critical of Obama. Its a pretty observable jujitsu tactic if you spend any time on the web.

You only wish. He's exactly as he portrays himself here.

This country is fucking nuts, and we're FUCKED.

You started with not knowing how our economy works and you responded with something totally different.

ZOMG you are nuts!!! I friggin' paraphrased what the President said!!!

I know how the economy works enough to know that it is fucked. Fear is our butler driving us around, not fundamentals. FACT.

You are saying that Americans don't need affordable car and home loans so that no one builds houses or cars and our economy continues to sink because more people lose their jobs? That is sure what it sounded like you said.

I believe things should be affordable ... otherwise no one could afford anything!

I'm saying that lowering a mortgage down to 4.5% so some jackass who never saved a time or pinched a penny ... or has a $700 car payment ... so THAT guy can get a mortgage lower than mine? I put 20% down ... We spend less than we make ... we put money away for retirement ... PLUS tax credits and interest free loans?!?! WHAT?!?!?!

The person who gets the car loan drives a car newer than mine already ... and gets some fire sale deal just to put them in a car just to support industry ... WHAT!?!?!

It's like smoke and mirrors ... and you have to pay the piper eventually. I just don't think fake fluff is the way to do it.

I paid for everything I ever received and have never had any issues or gotten any handouts. I'm just saying that it is important to the country that people can obtain low interest car and home loans to grow the economy. I didn't say anything about giving them to everyone like they were doing in the past. Your post isn't very clear because it seems that you are laughing at the idea of low interest home and auto loans being available. That is important to the economy. If that isn't what you meant then you didn't state things very clearly.

If anyone had any doubts as to whether right wing extremists were represented in this thread, this should put them to rest.

I've got to give HP some credit. He's ballsy enough to say out loud what many of our "rightwingers" feel in their hearts - but aren't man enough to say....

Perhaps you should name names.

why? are you the gestapo?

haha...there was more fluff in his first 3 minutes than Obama's entire speech. This is pathetic.

This was he's first introduction to the nation. I guess the "fluff" was warranted, especially since he's gearing up to run in 2012.

I think his 2012 hope train just crashed.

Because otherwise you just sound like a coward. It's easy to say things like "other people here feel this in their hearts."

Coward.

This is exactly why I've never felt he's electable. His communication style only comes off as sincere to deep southerners - to others it just sounds practiced and ingenuine. He'll need to completely overhaul it to have a chance on a national stage.

I was thinking that as well. I have high hopes for Obama.

Well, they do say Obama makes a great speech... to bad its policy that helps generate jobs.. not great speeches...

Wait, you start by saying "finally some substance", and then when I point out it's a powderpuff speech, you defend it. Which is it? Substance or "warranted" fluff?

Either way, it went over like a lead balloon.

It sucks Jinal came off flat during his response. He had the right substance but came off flat. If the substance is the direction of the party I will be happy has hell. Government is the problem and the big government Obama wants will make things even worse.

Ok, people want names?

For sneering, disingenuous, and anti-government conservatives, CADSortaGuy and ProfJohn qualify.

I was in school during the nation's great push to the moon, it was an exciting time to be a student, school boards spent money, there were monies put into science teachers, labs and a new fangled invention put out by a company called Apple.

The race to the moon, our desire to be there first.. the support of the president in achieving that objection led to such huge technological gains for this nation. If Obama
is serious about funding the R&D for the clean energy it will be the shot in the arm that we need.

Money put into furthering scientific knowledge is, imho the best stimulus plan going!

I believe his (her?) comment before is exactly that. What kind of statement is "He's ballsy enough to say out loud what many of our "rightwingers" feel in their hearts - but aren't man enough to say...." if he(she?) doesn't have the balls to say who he's (she's?) talking about?

Agreed, but Jindal is still carrying Republicans in a reactionary tone. His weak voice repeating "we can do anything" screamed of imitation. It is tough when all superfluous political messages are essentially the same, but Jindal is not good at packaging his ideas.

I said substance because he finally started responding to Obama's address.

The fluff was all the talk about his family and upbringing at the beginning - which was warranted for the reasons I already eluded to.

Right, just like it won't when it comes to socialized healthcare right?

We have the best military equipment in the world. We are at least 10+ years ahead of every other nation.
Why the hell do we need to spend hundreds of billions on new toys when the economy is doing horrible? We can take cuts. We fall back 5 years.. we are still ahead. All we have to do is keep the current toys we have in good working condition. No more purchasing F-22s, etc. till the economy is fixed.

yeah, and yet we've heard story after story about how the troops in Iraq don't have proper essentials, equipment is breaking down or we didn't have enough there for support. Purchasing equipment, funding R&D are great ways of stimulating the economy. It's part of our military infrastructure. Infrastructure...isn't that what the stimulus bill was supposed to fund?

Ballsy enough to start out with a racial slur that serves no purpose but to insult his race by bringing up years of bigotry?

Criticize the man, criticize the character, go all RUSH on him if you want, but don't you bring up his race. A stooge he may perhaps me (for the sake of argument), but if he is he is a democratic one.

I wouldn't call you are a coward but you are certainly agreeing with statements that insult race, a indefensible trait that has no business in these conversations.

If you want to call him a puppet, call him a puppet (Nancy's spring-loaded chair made for great entertainment). If you want to call him a phoney call him a phoney.

Just leave race out of it.

Although there was too much applause in President Obama's speech, overall, it was a strong and good speech.

The Jindal/Republican response felt hollow and disengenuous. Particularly the repetitious "we can do anything" part. He sounded like Steve from that show Blues Clues.

Obama sounded good; I was somewhat reassured by his confidence as well as his reasoning/analysis.

Jindal was interesting as well. He had a rough start, but he may have become my new LOR (Least Objectionable Republican). But I don't expect him to be much of a challenge to an incumbent Obama in 2012, even as the GOP seeks to recast itself in an effort to recapture the un-old-and the un-white.

I totally understand the people who are saying that they put 20% down on their homes and didn't take handouts being upset... but I also understand that unless we hold our noses and get some lending flowing in the country again and quickly that we're going to be in a decade long recession.

The problem is not money these days. The problem starts at home with piss poor parenting leading to kids not giving a shit. Until the problems at home fixed no amount of money can fix the issues. If the students cared 1/1000 about school as they do their cell phone the education system would be fixed.

I'm outta here. Too much hackery. It was a good speech (even though I strongly disagree) and the reaction from congress tells the tale. That's what it is - public showing of support or dissonance.

Thank god we have this kind of public viewership.

You can be a liberal or a conservative or a neocon or a libertarian or whatever label. This is OUR country and we own it.

Obama gave a good address and stated his goals, you can't attack that. I still don't like him or where he's going but can at least step outside my wittle box and agree with some of his sentiment.
